KATHERYNE HICKMAN NAMED
TO VERIZON ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT FIRST TEAM
Kat HickmanPORTALES, NM — Eastern New Mexico University basketball player Katheryne Hickman (Sr., F, San Antonio, TX/Castle Hills H.S.) has been named First Team Verizon Academic All-District VI as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Student-athletes were chosen for the Academic All-District team based on their academic and athletic success.

Hickman has achieved a 3.51 cumulative grade point average at ENMU while majoring in Communication. She also finished her career as a Zia ranked 5th in ENMU scoring history with 1,234 points. Hickman led the Zias in scoring this season with 17.6 points per game. She also led the team in rebounding (6.6 avg.), 3-pointers made (58), 3-pt percentage (.417), and minutes played (32.6 min/g). Hickman was the team’s top scorer in 17 of Eastern’s 25 games, and led the Zias in rebounding 14 times.

Hickman scored 25 or more points five times this season, including a personal high 35 against Abilene Christian University on Feb. 17. In the Lone Star Conference, Hickman ranked 5th in scoring, 13th in rebounding, 2nd in 3-pt field-goal percentage, and 4th in 3-pt field goals made per game. She was also named LSC South player of the week on Dec. 10th.

CoSIDA District VI includes colleges and universities in New Mexico, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma and Texas. Players nominated for the Verizon Academic All-District Team were starters or key reserves with cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher (4.0 scale). Each player had to be at her current college or university for at least one full year.
