DAWN MURRAY NAMED
LSC SOUTH HITTER-OF-THE-WEEK
PORTALES, NM — Eastern New Mexico University sophomore first baseman Dawn Murray (Carlsbad, NM/Carlsbad H.S.) has been named Lone Star Conference South Division Hitter-of-the-Week for the week ending March 4. Murray helped ENMU earn a 3-1-1 record during the week, as the Zias tied for first place at the University of West Florida Classic and improved to 8-3-1 on the season.

Murray earned a .400 batting average (6 of 15) during the week. She recorded at least one hit in four of the five games. She scored 3 runs and provided 5 RBIs.

ENMU tied host West Florida, 0-0 in 5 innings, in the title game of the UWF Classic. The game was shortened due to heavy rain. The Zias lost to UWF, 5-0, in their tourney opener, but responded with five consecutive wins (two against Lon Morris J.C. that are not included in Eastern’s overall record) to reach the championship game.

ENMU defeated Martin Methodist, 10-2, downed Oakland City, 8-2, and shut out Briar Cliff, 11-0. The Zias also defeated Lon Morris, 1-0 in 8 innings, in pool play, and downed Lon Morris, 4-1 in 8 innings, in the semifinals.

ENMU hosts Concordia University (Nebr.) on Tuesday, Mar. 6 and Wednesday, Mar. 7 at Zia Softball Field. First pitch for Tuesday’s double-header is set for 1:00 p.m. (MST). The first game of Wednesday’s double-header is scheduled to start at 10:00 a.m. (MST).
