HARRER NAMED The Zias, who improved to 8-31 on the season, tied for first place at the University of West Florida Classic in Pensacola, Fla. Harrer achieved a 1.75 ERA during the week. She recorded 17 strikeouts and gave up 7 walks in 16 innings pitched. Harrer earned a 1-1 record, and received no decision in Eastern’s rain-shortened 0-0 tie with West Florida in the UWF Classic title game. The game was called after 5 innings due to heavy rain. The Zias lost to UWF, 5-0, to open the tourney, but responded with five consecutive wins (two vs. Lon Morris J.C. -- not included in Eastern’s record) to reach the championship game. ENMU defeated Martin Methodist, 10-2, downed Oakland City, 8-2, and shut out Briar Cliff, 11-0. The Zias also defeated Lon Morris, 1-0 in 8 innings, in pool play, and downed Lon Morris, 4-1 in 8 innings, in the semifinals. Harrer struck out 9 batters in ENMU’s run rule victory over Briar Cliff, and added 5 strikeouts in the title game versus UWF. She did not allow a run in either of those games (10 innings pitched), and gave up just 4 earned runs overall. ENMU hosts Concordia University (Nebr.) on Tuesday, Mar. 6 and Wednesday, Mar. 7 at Zia Softball Field. First pitch for Tuesday’s double-header is set for 1:00 p.m. (MST). The first game of Wednesday’s double-header is scheduled to start at 10:00 a.m. (MST). |
