MAEGAN RHOTEN NAMED
LSC SOUTH HITTER-OF-THE-WEEK
Maegan RhotenPORTALES, NM — Eastern New Mexico University freshman outfielder and pitcher Maegan Rhoten (Albuquerque, NM/St. Pius X H.S.) has been selected Lone Star Conference South Division Hitter-of-the-Week for the week ending March 25. Rhoten helped ENMU earn a 3-1 record during the week, as the Zias improved to 17-6-1 overall.

Rhoten provided a .538 batting average during the week, with 7 hits in 13 at bats. She scored 4 runs and recorded 6 RBIs, while pounding out 2 doubles and 1 home run. Rhoten earned at least one RBI in all four games. ENMU swept a double-header from Fort Hays State on Mar. 19, winning 8-0 in 5 innings on the run rule, and claiming a 5-3 win in the second game.

The Zias split an LSC double-header at Tarleton State on Mar. 23, dropping the first game 2-1, and winning the second game, 4-1 in 8 innings. A second double-header against TSU, set for Mar. 24, was canceled due to rain.

In the second game versus Fort Hays State, Rhoten pitched 2 innings. She gave up 2 hits and 1 unearned run. She also recorded 2 strikeouts and did not allow a walk. Rhoten was 4 for 7 at the plate in Eastern’s two games at Tarleton State. Her solo home run in the opening game against the TexAnns provided Eastern’s only run.

In the second game, she hit a 2-run single in the top of the 8th inning to break a 1-1 tie. She registered 3 RBIs during the game, and finished the double-header with 4 RBIs on Eastern’s 5 runs.

For the season, Rhoten owns a .315 batting average. She is tied for the team lead with 4 home runs, and has also hit 4 doubles. She leads the Zias in RBIs with 26, and is tied for second in runs scored with 17.

ENMU, ranked #6 in the South Central Region of NCAA Division II, hosts Texas A&M-Kingsville, ranked #4 in the Region, in two LSC double-headers this weekend. The Zias and Lady Javelinas will play the first double-header on Friday, Mar. 30, starting at 1:00 p.m. (MST). The second double-header is scheduled for Saturday, Mar. 31, at 12:00 noon (MST).
