AT WEST FLORIDA CLASSIC
PENSACOLA, FL — The Eastern New Mexico University softball team, which won its own Zia Classic last weekend, is off to a great start at the University of West Florida Classic, in Pensacola, Fla. The Zias have completed pool play with a 4-1 record and are seeded #2 as the tournament heads into bracket play on Saturday, Mar. 3.

ENMU opened the tournament with three games on Thursday, Mar. 1. The Zias played two more games on Friday, Mar. 2. The tournament concludes with bracket play on Saturday, Mar. 3 The Zias lost to host West Florida, 5-0, in their first game. UWF reached the Final 8 of the NCAA Division II National Tournament last season.

Jennifer Harrer (Sr., P, Albuquerque, NM/Hope Christian H.S.) pitched a complete game, but fell to 2-1 on the season. In Eastern’s second game, the Zias defeated Martin Methodist (Tenn.), 10-2. Lauren King (Fr., P/1B, La Mirada, CA/La Serna H.S.) pitched the first three innings and Suzy Seitzinger (Sr., OF/P, Bloomfield, NM/Bloomfield H.S.) threw the final two stanzas, as ENMU won on the run rule in five innings.

In the third game, ENMU edged Lon Morris, a junior college, 1-0 in 8 innings. Freshman Maegan Rhoten (Fr., Albuquerque, NM/St. Pius X H.S.) pitched a complete game no-hitter. Eastern began Friday’s schedule with a 7-2 victory over Oakland City (Indiana). Rhoten was the starting pitcher, with King entering as a reliever to complete the victory. The Zias concluded pool play with an 11-0 win over Briar Cliff (Iowa). The shutout allowed ENMU to clinch second place in pool play. Eastern’s first opponent in bracket play had not been determined.
