KATHLEEN AND JAMES RODRIGUEZ CHOSEN LSC SOUTH COACHES-OF-THE-YEAR
Jennifer Harrer Named LSC South Pitcher-of-the-Year; Jessica Rowley Selected LSC South Newcomer-of-the-Year
PORTALES, NM — Eastern New Mexico University Co-Head Coaches Kathleen and James Rodriguez have been named Lone Star Conference South Division Coaches-of-the-Year as selected by head coaches in the LSC South.

ENMU senior pitcher Jennifer Harrer (RHP, Albuquerque, NM/Hope Christian H.S.) was chosen LSC South Pitcher-of-the-Year, and junior shortstop Jessica Rowley (Dallas, OR/Clackamas C.C.) was named LSC South Newcomer- of-the-Year, in voting for the division’s top awards. The LSC South head coaches also chose the 2001 All-LSC South Team.

ENMU received five First Team selections, including Harrer, senior catcher Sarah Rempp (Marshalltown, IA/ Greeley Central H.S.), junior third baseman Rachel Mohler (Las Vegas, NV/Green Valley H.S.) freshman utility player Maegan Rhoten (Albuquerque, NM/St. Pius X H.S.) and senior center fielder Kim Paschall (Midland, TX/Midland H.S.).

Rowley was voted to the Second Team at shortstop, while sophomore pitcher Dawn Murray (RHP, Carlsbad, NM/Carlsbad H.S.) and junior second baseman Alison Montbriand (Austin, TX/ Hill College) were Honorable Mention selections.

Kathleen and James Rodriguez have led the Zias to a 34-12-1 overall record, including ENMU’s first ever LSC South title at 12-2 in conference play. The Zias took second place at the LSC Tournament this past weekend (Apr. 27-28), reaching the championship round with an undefeated record before falling to Southeastern Oklahoma, 1-0 and 2-1 (10 innings).

Both of Eastern’s co-head coaches have been at ENMU for three seasons. James Rodriguez (34-12-1) was an assistant coach until this year. Kathleen Rodriguez (73-64-1) was also a head coach during the 1999 and 2000 seasons.

The Zias, ranked third in the South Central Region of NCAA Division II (Apr. 18), may receive Eastern’s first ever berth in the NCAA National Softball Tournament. Regional sites and pairings for the 32-team National Tournament will be released on Monday, May 7.

FIRST TEAM ALL-LSC SOUTH
Jennifer HarrerHarrer has achieved a 20-6 record and a 0.85 earned run average this spring, while setting ENMU single season records for victories and ERA. She also has established school records for appearances (35), complete games (19), shutouts (14 total, 11 solo), innings pitched (173), strikeouts (178) and opponent batting average (.172). She holds all of ENMU’s career pitching records.

The list of career records set by Harrer is highlighted by record totals for victories (42), strikeouts (395), innings pitched (477.0), shutouts (18 total/14 solo) and ERA (2.69). Harrer has played in 111 games at ENMU, including a school record 107 appearances on the mound. She has been chosen LSC South Pitcher-of-the-Week five times, including three times this season. She was named Honorable Mention All-LSC South in 1998 and 2000.

Rachel MohlerMohler was named First Team All-LSC South for the third consecutive season. She was LSC South Co-Freshman-of-the-Year in 1999 and was LSC South Co-Player-of-the-Year in 2000. She has started all 138 games the past three seasons, and holds ENMU career records for home runs with 27 and doubles with 44.

She set ENMU single season records for home runs (11) and doubles (19) during the 2000 season. She has supplied the Zias with an impressive .417 batting average this season, and owns a .403 career batting average. She leads the 2001 team with 63 hits, 14 doubles and 7 home runs. She is tied for the team lead with 33 runs scored and is tied for second with 31 RBIs.

Mohler has been chosen LSC South Hitter-of-the-Week three times during her career, including once this season (April 2).

Sarah RemppRempp moved to catcher this year after playing shortstop the past three seasons. She was named Second Team All-LSC South in 1999, and was an Honorable Mention All-LSC South selection in 1998 and 2000.

She is Eastern’s career record holder with 117 RBIs, and ranks 2nd all-time at ENMU with 100 runs scored and 18 home runs. She has earned a .331 batting average this season, with 11 doubles, 1 triple and 6 homers. She has scored 30 runs for the Zias this year, while driving in 31 runs. Rempp has started 187 of 191 games the past four seasons. She has recorded 178 hits, the second highest total in school history.

She has been named LSC South Hitter-of-the-Week twice, including once this spring (Feb. 27).

Maegan RhotenRhoten has made a significant impact during her freshman season at ENMU.

She leads the team with 38 RBIs, ranks third in home runs (5), runs scored (31), and doubles (7), and has supplied a .296 batting average.

She has started all 47 games, providing solid play as a left fielder, first baseman and pitcher.She is 1-2 as a pitcher with a 2.67 ERA and 15 strikeouts in 21 innings.

She has allowed just one extra-base hit.

Kim Paschall

Paschall is the Zias’ career leader with 204 hits, 606 at bats and 133 runs in four seasons at ENMU. She owns a .337 career batting average and is 39 of 46 (.848) on career stolen bases.

This season, Paschall has started 45 games in center field, and has provided 30 runs, 15 RBIs, 6 doubles, a team-high 4 triples, and 1 home run. She has stolen 12 bases on 13 attempts, and owns a .286 batting average.

During her career, Paschall has played in 184 of ENMU’s 191 games. She has pounded out 17 doubles and 8 triples, while earning 55 career RBIs. She was previously named First Team All-LSC South in 1998 and 2000. She was a Second Team All-LSC South selection in 1999.

Paschall was chosen LSC South Hitter-of-the-Week on April 26 this season.

SECOND TEAM ALL-LSC SOUTH
Jessica RowleyRowley transferred to ENMU this year, after two seasons as a volleyball and softball player at Clackamas C.C. in Oregon. She was a standout on the Zia volleyball team this past fall, recording 424 kills and 419 digs, as ENMU earned a 26-11 overall record.
She was named Honorable Mention All-LSC South in volleyball.

She earned a starting spot with the softball team this spring, and has been one of the top shortstops in the LSC. She owns a .299 batting average, and is currently tied for the team lead with 33 runs scored. She has provided 20 RBIs, while hitting 3 doubles, 1 triple and 3 home runs.

She is the first recipient of the Newcomer-of-the-Year Award, created to honor the top transfer student joining the LSC South.

HONORABLE MENTION ALL-LSC SOUTH
Dawn MurrayMurray has pitched in 15 games this season, including 12 starts. She has thrown three complete games and has been involved in 5 shutout wins. She has produced a 1.49 ERA over 70 2/3, and has struck out 37 batters while allowing 19 walks. She has a 7-2 record this season and an 11-2 record during two seasons at ENMU.

She was named Honorable Mention All-LSC South at first base last season. She has been a regular starter at first base and pitcher for the Zias the past two years. She has played in all 97 games with 96 starts.

She was chosen LSC South Hitter-of-the-Week on Mar. 5, 2001.

Alison MontbriandMontbriand has started all 47 games this spring. She ranks third on the team with 111 putouts and 56 assists. She has committed just 6 errors and has a .965 fielding percentage. She has participated in 6 double plays. She has scored 10 runs and earned 5 RBIs.
