SOFTBALL PLAYERS MOHLER AND HARRER
NAMED NCAA DIVISION II ALL-AMERICA
Mohler is Second Team Pick, Harrer Named to Third Team

PORTALES, NM — Eastern New Mexico University softball players Rachel Mohler (Jr., 3B, Las Vegas, NV/Green Valley H.S.) and Jennifer Harrer (Sr., RHP, Albuquerque, NM/ Hope Christian H.S.), have been named to the 2001 NCAA Division II All-America Team, as selected by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA). Mohler was named to the Second Team, and Harrer was a Third Team selection. Both players were also named First Team All-South Central Region in voting by the NFCA.

Rachel MohlerMohler topped ENMU’s offensive chart with an impressive .398 batting average this season, and led the team with 68 hits, 15 doubles, 10 home runs, and 39 RBIs. She tied for the team lead with 36 runs scored. Mohler owns a .397 career batting average, and has been chosen LSC South Hitter-of-the-Week three times during her career, including once during the 2001 season (April 2).

Mohler was named First Team All-LSC South for the third consecutive season. She was LSC South Co-Freshman-of-the-Year in 1999 and was LSC South Co-Player-of-the-Year in 2000.

She has started all 144 games the past three years, and holds ENMU career records with 30 career home runs and 45 career doubles. She set ENMU single season records for home runs (11) and doubles (19) during the 2000 season.

Jennifer HarrerHarrer was named 2001 Lone Star Conference South Division Pitcher-of-the-Year. She achieved a 24-8 record and a 0.86 earned run average, while setting ENMU single season records for victories and ERA.

She also established school records for appearances (41), complete games (24), shutouts (16 total, 13 solo), innings pitched (212), strikeouts (214) and opponent batting average (.169). She holds all of ENMU’s career pitching records. Her career records include victories (45), strikeouts (431), innings pitched (516.0), shutouts (20 total/16 solo) and ERA (2.55).

Harrer has played in 117 games at ENMU, including a school record 113 appearances on the mound. Harrer has been chosen LSC South Pitcher-of-the-Week five times during her career.

This year, she was named First Team All-LSC South and was voted to the LSC South All-Academic Team. She was named Honorable Mention All-LSC South in 1998 and 2000.

The ENMU softball team, in just its fifth season of existence, qualified for the 2001 NCAA Division II National Tournament and won the South Central Regional to advance to the National Finals in Salem, Va. The Zias tied for 5th place in the nation. ENMU’s losses at the National Finals were to the University of Nebraska-Omaha, which won the national title, and to Lewis University, the national runner-up.

The Zias concluded the year with a 38-14-1 overall record. ENMU also won its first ever Lone Star Conference South Division title and placed second at the LSC Tournament.
