PASCHALL NAMED TO VERIZON Three ENMU players were named Second Team Verizon Academic All-District VI. Eastern’s Second Team selections were senior right-handed pitcher Jennifer Harrer (Albuquerque, NM/ Hope Christian H.S.), sophomore first baseman Dawn Murray (Carlsbad, NM/Carlsbad H.S.), and senior catcher Sarah Rempp (Marshalltown, IA/Greeley Central H.S., CO). CoSIDA District VI includes universities in New Mexico, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma and Texas. Players nominated for the Academic All-District Team were starters or key reserves with cumulative GPAs of 3.2 or higher (4.0 scale). Each player had to be at his current college or university for at least one full year. A total of 11 players were named First Team Verizon Academic All-District VI this season. Another 11 players were named to the Second Team. Paschall earned a 3.605 cumulative GPA while majoring in Marketing at ENMU. She was named to the LSC South All-Academic Team in 2000 and 2001, and qualified for the LSC South Commissioner’s Honor Roll in 1999. Paschall holds ENMU career records with 208 hits, 625 at bats and 135 runs. She owns a .333 career batting average and is 40 of 47 (.851) on stolen bases. This season, she provided a .277 batting average, with 32 runs and 15 RBIs. She pounded out 6 doubles, a team-high 4 triples, and 1 home run. She was successful on 13 of 14 stolen base attempts. During her career, Paschall played in 190 of ENMU’s 197 games. She recorded 17 doubles, 8 triples and 55 RBIs. She was named First Team All-LSC South in 1998, 2000 and 2001, and was a Second Team All-LSC South selection in 1999.
On the field, Harrer was chosen 2001 LSC South Pitcher-of-the-Year. She was a First Team All-LSC South selection in 2001, and was named Honorable Mention All-LSC South in 1998 and 2000. She was chosen LSC South Pitcher-of-the-Week five times during her career. This spring, she achieved a 24-8 record and a 0.86 earned run average, while setting Eastern New Mexico single season records for victories and ERA. She also established school records for appearances (41), complete games (24), shutouts (16 total, 13 solo), innings pitched (212), strikeouts (214) and opponent batting average (.169). Harrer holds all of ENMU’s career pitching records. Her career records include victories (45), strikeouts (431), innings pitched (516.0), shutouts (20 total/16 solo) and ERA (2.55). Harrer has played in 117 games at ENMU, including a school record 113 appearances on the mound.
She was named Honorable Mention All-LSC South in 2000 and 2001. She was a regular starter at first base and pitcher both years, and has played in all 103 games since the start of the 2000 season. Her career pitching record is 11-2, and she owns a .280 career batting average.
Rempp earned a .309 batting average this year, with 11 doubles, 1 triple and 7 homers. She scored 32 runs and earning 33 RBIs. She holds an ENMU career record with 117 RBIs, and ranks 2nd all-time at ENMU with 102 runs scored, 30 doubles, 19 home runs and 179 hits. She started 193 of 197 games for the Zias the past four seasons. The ENMU softball team, in just its fifth season of existence, qualified for the 2001 NCAA Division II National Tournament and won the South Central Regional to advance to the National Finals in Salem, Va. The Zias tied for 5th place in the nation. ENMU’s losses at the National Finals were to the University of Nebraska-Omaha, which won the national title, and to Lewis University, the national runner-up. The Zias concluded the year with a 38-14-1 overall record. ENMU also won its first ever Lone Star Conference South Division title and placed second at the LSC Tournament. Co-Head Coaches Kathleen and James Rodriguez were named LSC South Coaches-of-the-Year. |
