NAMED TO LSC SOUTH ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM
Jimenez Named to Commissioner’s Honor Roll
PORTALES, NM — Four Eastern New Mexico University baseball players have been named to the 2001 Lone Star Conference South Division All-Academic Baseball Team, as selected by the LSC South sports information directors. ENMU players named to the All-Academic Team were senior catcher and first baseman Matt Brown (Napa, CA/Diablo Valley College), junior outfielder Andy Hostetler (Albuquerque, NM/Valley H.S.), sophomore pitcher Jerry Macias (Las Cruces, NM/Las Cruces H.S.) and sophomore catcher and designated hitter Dallas McMann (Amarillo, TX/Randall H.S.).

Student-athletes with at least a 3.2 grade point average and 24 or more semester hours at an LSC member institution were eligible for the LSC South All-Academic Team. A total of nine players from the five South Division teams were selected.

ENMU senior third baseman Eddie Jimenez (Tucumcari, NM/N.M. Military Institute) joined Brown, Hostetler, Macias and McMann on the LSC South Commissioner’s Honor Roll. Players voted to All-Academic Team, plus all other nominees, were named to the Honor Roll.

Matt BrownBrown, who is majoring in History and Physical Education, has a 3.615 cumulative grade point average. He hit .330 this season, with 21 runs scored. He hit 3 doubles and 1 triple, and supplied quality defense, earning a .982 fielding percentage, while helping the Greyhounds at both catcher and first base. He was second on the team with 193 putouts.

In two seasons at ENMU, Brown achieved a .323 career batting average. He also provided 32 runs, 15 RBIs and 7 doubles as a Greyhound. He recorded 314 putouts and finished his career with a .986 fielding percentage. He was named Second Team All-LSC South this season.

Andy HostetlerHostetler is majoring in Mathematics and owns a 3.593 cumulative GPA. He was named to the Verizon Academic All-District Team and the LSC South All-Academic Team in 2000. He was chosen First Team All-LSC South in 1999 and was a Second Team All-LSC South selection this year.

Hostetler ranked fourth on the 2001 squad with a .341 batting average. He was second on the team with 44 runs scored, and placed fourth with 33 RBIs. He hit 7 doubles, 4 triples and 2 home runs, and was 16 of 20 on stolen bases. He saw action in 52 of ENMU’s 53 games. He hit .391 during the 2000 season, when he played in all 47 games and led the Hounds with 68 hits, 174 at bats, 14 doubles and 14 stolen bases.

In three years at ENMU, he has earned a .346 career batting average, with 93 runs scored, 73 RBIs, 23 doubles and 10 triples. He is 36 of 46 on career stolen bases attempts.

Jerry MaciasMacias owns a 3.346 cumulative GPA and is majoring in Biology. He pitched 50 innings during the 2001 season, and finished with a 5-2 record. He struck out 33 batters. He has made 23 appearances and thrown 104 1/3 innings in two seasons at ENMU. He has started 20 games and has achieved a career record of 9-6 for the Greyhounds. He has registered 74 strikeouts at ENMU. As a freshman in 2000, he earned 41 strikeouts while allowing just 12 walks.

McMann is an Accounting major with a 3.416 cumulative GPA. He was named First Team All-LSC South this season, after playing in 48 games and ranking third for the Greyhounds with a .362 batting average.

He was second on the team with a .592 slugging percentage, as 22 of his 55 hits went for extra bases. He blasted a team-leading 14 doubles to go with 3 triples and 5 homers. He led ENMU with 196 putouts and achieved a .974 fielding percentage.

Dallas McMannMcMann has played in 93 games the past two seasons. He has earned a .350 career batting average, while scoring 68 runs and producing 72 RBIs. He has recorded 40 extra-base hits, with 25 doubles, 6 triples and 9 home runs.



Eddie JimenezJimenez is majoring in Criminal Justice. He has achieved a 3.240 cumulative GPA. This season, he played in 20 games, including 6 starts. He hit .242, scored 8 runs and earned 6 RBIs.

In his two seasons at ENMU, he has played in 43 games (18 starts). He has scored 18 runs and recorded 10 RBIs. He has been an important utility infielder, playing mostly at third base, but also helping at second base.



ENMU finished the 2001 season with a 25-28 overall record, including 10-14 in the LSC South (4th place). The Greyhounds played in 18 games decided by one run or in extra innings. Head Coach Phil Clabaugh upped his career victory total to 340 wins in 14 seasons, including 244 wins in 10 seasons at ENMU.
