HARRER, MURRAY, PASCHALL, REMPP NAMED TO LSC SOUTH ALL-ACADEMIC SOFTBALL TEAM
PORTALES, NM — Four members of Eastern New Mexico University’s softball team, which won the Lone Star Conference South Division title, have been recognized for their success in the classroom. Senior pitcher Jennifer Harrer (Albuquerque, NM/Hope Christian H.S.), sophomore first baseman and pitcher Dawn Murray (Carlsbad, NM/Carlsbad H.S.), senior center fielder Kim Paschall (Midland, TX/Midland H.S.) and senior catcher Sarah Rempp (Marshalltown, IA/Greeley Central H.S., CO) have been named to the 2001 LSC South All-Academic Softball Team, as voted on by the LSC South sports information directors.

Student-athletes with at least a 3.2 grade point average and 24 or more semester hours at an LSC member institution were eligible for the LSC South All-Academic Team. A total of 10 players from the five South Division teams were selected. Players named to the LSC South All-Academic Team, plus all other nominees, were named to the LSC South Commissioner’s Honor Roll.

Jennifer HarrerHarrer has a 3.531 cumulative grade point average, and is majoring in Physical Education. She has achieved a 20-6 record and a 0.85 earned run average this spring. She has established ENMU single season records for victories and ERA, as well as appearances (35), complete games (19), shutouts (14 total/11 solo), innings pitched (173), strikeouts (178) and opponent batting average (.172).

She holds all of ENMU’s career pitching records, including victories (42), strikeouts (395), innings pitched (477.0), shutouts (18 total/14 solo) and ERA (2.69). She has played in 111 games at ENMU, including a school record 107 appearances on the mound.

She was named First Team All-LSC South this season, and was chosen Honorable Mention All-LSC South in 1998 and 2000. She was named to the LSC South Commissioner’s Honor Roll in 1999 and 2000.

Dawn MurrayMurray is majoring in Accounting at ENMU, and has a 3.791 career GPA. She has pitched in 15 games this season (12 starts), and has a 7-2 record and a 1.49 ERA. She has thrown three complete games and has been involved in 5 shutout wins. She has pitched 70 2/3 innings for the Zias, and has struck out 37 batters while allowing 19 walks.

On offense, she has achieved a .298 batting average, with 19 runs scored, 19 RBIs and 2 home runs. She was named Honorable Mention All-LSC South in 2000 and 2001. She has been a regular starter at first base and pitcher, and has played in all 97 games since the start of the 2000 season. Her career pitching record is 11-2. She also owns a .279 career batting average.

Kim PaschallPaschall has earned a 3.605 cumulative GPA. She is completing her undergraduate degree with a major in Marketing. She was named to the LSC All-Academic Team in 2000, and qualified for the LSC South Commissioner’s Honor Roll in 1999.

She holds ENMU career records with 204 hits, 606 at bats and 133 runs. She owns a .337 career batting average and is 39 of 46 (.848) on stolen bases.

This season, she has provided a .286 batting average, with 30 runs and 15 RBIs. She has pounded out 6 doubles, a team-high 4 triples, and 1 home run. She has been successful on 12 of 13 stolen base attempts.

During her career, Paschall has played in 184 of ENMU’s 191 games. She has recorded 17 doubles, 8 triples and 55 RBIs. She was named First Team All-LSC South in 1998, 2000 and 2001, and was a Second Team All-LSC South selection in 1999.

Sarah RemppRempp, who is majoring in Mathematics, has a 3.476 cumulative GPA, and was named to the LSC South Commissioner’s Honor Roll in 1999 and 2000. She was named First Team All-LSC South at catcher this season, after earning Second Team All-LSC South recognition at shortstop in 1999. She was named Honorable Mention All-LSC South at shortstop in 1998 and 2000.

Rempp has earned a .331 batting average this year, with 11 doubles, 1 triple and 6 homers. She has scored 30 runs, while earning 31 RBIs.

She holds Eastern’s career record for RBIs with 117 and ranks 2nd all-time at ENMU with 100 runs scored, 18 home runs and 178 hits. She has started 187 of 191 games for the Zias the past four seasons.

ENMU is currently 34-12-1 on the season. The Zias won the LSC South title with a 12-2 record and finished second at the LSC Tournament. Eastern, ranked #3 in the South Central Region of NCAA Division II this past week, will likely receive its first ever NCAA National Tournament berth when Regional sites and pairings are announced later today.

The Zias are in their fifth season of intercollegiate softball since the sport was added at ENMU in 1996-97.
