JAMAAL HUNNICUTT SIGNS LETTER-OF-INTENT TO PLAY BASKETBALL AT EASTERN NEW MEXICO
PORTALES, NM — Jamaal Hunnicutt, a 6’5” 210-pound forward who redshirted at Hill Junior College in Hillsboro, Texas, has signed a National Letter-of-Intent to play men’s basketball at Eastern New Mexico University. Hunnicutt, who previously played at Randall High School in Amarillo, Texas, will join ENMU Head Coach Shawn Scanlan and the Greyhounds as a redshirt freshman for the 2001-02 season.

Hunnicutt finished his high school career as Randall’s all-time leader in rebounds with 740 and blocked shots with 115. He also set a school record with 60.7% accuracy on field goals during his career (527 of 868). He scored 1,495 points in three seasons at RHS, and was named 2nd Team All-State twice. As a senior in 1999-00, he played in the TABC All-Star Game and was nominated for the McDonald’s All-American Team.

“Jamaal is an athletic, aggressive, big forward who can develop into an effective college player and contribute in an area where we were deficient this past season,” Scanlan said. “Jamaal was an instrumental part of a very successful high school program at Randall.”

Hunnicutt was named to The Amarillo Globe-News Super Team in 1998-99 and 1999-00 and was chosen Super Team Player-of-the-Year in 1999-00. He was also named First Team All-District as a junior and a senior.

During his senior season, Hunnicutt averaged 18.1 points and 8.2 rebounds per game. He connected on 63.0% of his field goals (213 of 338), and contributed 2.9 assists and 1.5 blocked shots per game. As a junior, he averaged 17.4 points, 8.9 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.4 steals.

Randall H.S. earned a 25-8 record in 1997-98, went 26-9 in 1998-99, and concluded the 1999-00 season at 29-5. The Raiders were Class 4A Regional finalists all three seasons, finishing 14th in the State in 1997-98, earning 9th place in 1998-99, and taking 5th in 1999-00.
