KEENAN HOOKER SIGNS LETTER-OF-INTENT TO PLAY BASKETBALL AT EASTERN NEW MEXICO
PORTALES, NM — Keenan Hooker, a 5’11” 165-pound guard from Randall High School in Amarillo, Texas, has signed a National Letter-of-Intent to play men’s basketball at Eastern New Mexico University. Hooker will join ENMU Head Coach Shawn Scanlan and the Greyhounds for the 2001-02 season.

In 2000-01, Hooker was a TABC Second Team All-State selection and earned TABC First Team All-Region honors. He was named to The Amarillo Globe-News Super Team, and was nominated for the McDonald’s All-American Team. He was named Second Team All-Region in 1999-00.

He was named First Team All-District during his sophomore, junior, and senior years. He was chosen District MVP this past season, when he averaged 20.9 points per game. He averaged 16.0 points, 3.0 assists and 2.9 steals per game during his career.

“Keenan is a shooter with proven 3-point shooting range,” Scanlan said. “He can play both the point guard and #2 guard positions in certain situations. His versatility, plus his impact this past year on a very successful high school team, make us excited about his addition to our program.”

Hooker was Randall’s all-time career scoring leader with 1,677 points, and established several other school records. His career records included steals (310), three-pointers (264) and free throw percentage (83.6%, 239 of 286).

In 2000-01, he set single season records for points (751), three-pointers (115) and steals (122). He shot 57.2% on two-point field goals at RHS, and sank 40.5% of his three-point shots. He connected on a personal-best 62.3% of his two-pointers this past season, helping Randall earn a 34-2 record and a 4th place finish in Texas Class 4A.

Randall advanced to the Regional finals each of the past three seasons. In addition to being 4th in the State in 2000-01, the Raiders finished 5th in 1999-00 and were 9th in 1998-99.
