MARGIE GOBLE NAMED THIRD TEAM VERIZON ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT
PORTALES, NM — Eastern New Mexico University volleyball setter Margie Goble (So., San Antonio, TX/Holmes H.S.) has been named Third Team Verizon Academic All-District VI as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Student-athletes chosen for the Academic All-District team have earned significant academic and athletic success. Goble has achieved a 3.60 cumulative grade point average at ENMU. She is majoring in Public Relations/Sports Communication.

Goble registered 1,374 assists (11.45 avg.) during the 2001 season, helping the Zias achieve a 22-14 overall record and a 7-3 record in the Lone Star Conference South Division (2nd place).

In just two seasons at ENMU, she has established a new career assist record with 2,910 assists. The previous record of 2,905 assists was set by Lindsey Davison in 1998 and 1999. In addition to leading the 2001 team in assists, she also provided the Zias with 330 digs (2.8 avg.), 119 kills (1.0 avg.) and 27 service aces (0.2 avg.).

Goble was credited with 60 total blocks, including 7 solo blocks. She helped ENMU reach the championship match of the LSC Tournament before losing to #1-ranked West Texas A&M University. She has achieved 709 career digs and 248 career kills. She has also supplied 67 service aces and 134 total blocks during her ENMU career.

CoSIDA District VI includes colleges and universities in New Mexico, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma and Texas. Players nominated for the Verizon Academic All-District Team were starters or key reserves with cumulative GPAs of 3.2 or higher (4.0 scale). Each player had to be at her current college or university for at least one full year.
