ERIC MIMS IS SELECTED TO VERIZON ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT TEAM
PORTALES, NM — Eastern New Mexico University sophomore cornerback Eric Mims (Amarillo, TX/Palo Duro H.S.) has been named to the Verizon Academic All-District VI College Division Football Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Mims and the 22 other players named Academic All-District VI are eligible for the Academic All-America College Division Football Team, which will be announced next month. Mims has achieved a 3.63 cumulative grade point averaging while majoring in Computer Information Systems at Eastern New Mexico.

He qualified for the ENMU Athletic Honor Roll both semesters as a freshman last year. He was also chosen LSC South Freshman-of-the-Year for the 2000 season. He missed several games due to injury this fall, but played in 5 games and recorded 11 total tackles, including 7 unassisted tackles. He broke up two passes, registered one tackle for a loss, and forced one fumble.

As a freshman, he earned 17 total tackles, intercepted one pass and broke up 4 passes, while playing in all 10 games. CoSIDA District VI includes colleges and universities in New Mexico, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma and Texas.

Players nominated for the Verizon Academic All-District Team were starters or key reserves with cumulative GPAs of 3.2 or higher (4.0 scale). Each player had to be at his current college or university for at least one full year. The College Division includes players in NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and the NAIA.

The Greyhounds, led by Head Coach Harold “Bud” Elliott (8th year), compete in NCAA Division II and the Lone Star Conference. Eastern finished the 2001 season with a 6-4 overall record and a 2-4 record in the LSC South. It was the Hounds’ fourth straight winning season, giving Eastern a 28-14 record the past four years.
