MARGIE GOBLE NAMED TO LSC SOUTH DIVISION ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM
PORTALES, NM — Eastern New Mexico University sophomore setter Margie Goble (Fr., San Antonio, TX/Holmes High School) has been chosen for the 2001 LSC South Division All-Academic Team.

LSC South sports information directors voted for the All-Academic Team, choosing six student-athletes from 12 players who qualified for the LSC South Commissioner’s Honor Roll. Selections were based on both academic and athletic achievements.

Goble, a Public Relations/Sports Communication major with a 3.60 cumulative grade point average, played in all 36 matches and 120 of 128 games for the Zias this season. She provided the Zias with 1,374 assists during the season, an average of 11.45 assists per game.

In just two seasons at ENMU, she has established a new school record with 2,910 career assists. The previous record of 2,905 assists was set by Lindsey Davison in 1998 and 1999.

In addition to leading the team in assists, Goble recorded 330 digs (2.8 avg.), 119 kills (1.0 avg.) and 27 service aces (0.2 avg.). She was credited with 60 total blocks, including 7 block solos, while playing on the front row.Goble has achieved 709 career digs and 248 career kills. She has also amassed 67 service aces and 134 total blocks in her two years as a collegiate player.

Eastern New Mexico finished the season with a 22-14 record and reached the championship match of the LSC Tournament before losing to #1-ranked West Texas A&M University. The Zias were 7-3 in the LSC South.

Head Coach Mike Maguire improved his overall ENMU record to 317-187 (.629) during 15 seasons. Student-athletes qualified for the LSC South Commissioner’s Honor Roll by earning at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average in all college level work and by completing a minimum of 24 semesters hours at their current college or university.

In addition to Goble other Honor Roll selections named to the LSC South All-Academic Team were Jess Anne Fernandes and Laura Anderson of West Texas A&M University, Lindsay DeHoff of Abilene Christian University, and Stephanie Gill of Texas A&M University-Kingsville and Shelly Billstein of Tarleton State University.
