PORTALES, NM — Eastern New Mexico University sophomore setter Margie Goble (San Antonio, TX/Holmes H.S.), has been selected Lone Star Conference South Division Setter/Defensive Player-of-the-Week for the third time this season.

Her most recent award was earned through her efforts during the week of Oct. 29 - Nov. 4, 2001, as ENMU defeated all three of its opponents in three games. The Zias opened the week by defeating Wayland Baptist University, 30-23, 30-25, 30-25, in a non-conference match on Oct. 30.

ENMU also claimed LSC South victories over Angelo State University, 30-23, 30-21, 30-28, on Nov. 2, and against Abilene Christian University, 31-29, 30-27, 30-22, on Nov. 3. The pair of LSC wins improved the Zias to 20-13 overall, and allowed Eastern to clinch second place in the LSC South with a 7-3 record.

Goble recorded 109 assists in 8 games during the week, an average of 13.6 assists per game. She also achieved 21 digs (2.6 avg.) and 4 total blocks (0.5 avg.). She provided 1 service ace, and earned 4 kills. She recorded 46 assists and 11 digs in 3 games against Abilene Christian.

Last year, Goble set an ENMU record with 1,536 assists. She now has 2,764 career assists, and need just 141 assists to reach the ENMU career record of 2,905 set by Lindsey Davison in 1998 and 1999.

The Zias have qualified for the Lone Star Conference Tournament, and will take on Texas A&M-Commerce in the first round on Thursday, Nov. 8 at 6:30 p.m. (MST). The tournament continues through Saturday, Nov. 10, with the winner claiming the LSC Championship and an automatic bid to the NCAA Division II National Tournament.
