JONATHON SOLIS NAMED LSC SOUTH DEFENSIVE PLAYER-OF-THE-WEEK
HossPORTALES, NM — Eastern New Mexico University junior free safety Jonathon Solis (Roswell, NM/N.M. Military Institute) has been named Lone Star Conference South Division Defensive Player-of-the-Week for his efforts in Eastern’s 28-20 victory over 24th-ranked Texas A&M-Commerce at Greyhound Stadium on Saturday, October 20.

Solis led the Greyhounds in tackles, and recovered two fumbles, including one he returned 23 yards for a touchdown. Solis registered a game-high 18 total tackles on 9 solo stops and 9 assists. He helped the Greyhounds limit the Lions to 266 total yards, as ENMU improved to 5-3 overall and 1-3 in the LSC South.

TAMU-Commerce dropped to 6-2 on the season, 2-1 in the LSC South. The first fumble recovery by Solis was at the TAMUC 31-yard line, and set up the game’s first touchdown three plays later, when Cale Sanders (Jr., WR, Roswell, NM/Goddard H.S.) hauled in a 29-yard pass from Heath Ridenour (Jr., QB, Lovington, NM/Lovington H.S.) just 4:01 into the game.

Solis’ second fumble recovery occurred at the Lions’ 23, where he scooped up the ball and dashed to the end zone, giving ENMU a 14-0 lead with 10:24 remaining in the half.

Solis continued to provide strong defense the remainder of the game, helping Eastern secure the win. His 18 tackles on Saturday give him a team-high 88 tackles for the season.

The Greyhounds are on the road next Saturday, Oct. 27, for an LSC South game against Texas A&M-Kingsville. Kickoff in Kingsville, Texas, is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. (MDT). Last year, Eastern New Mexico defeated the Javelinas, 35-7, at Greyhound Stadium.
