NEW MEXICO SWEEPS TAMU-KINGSVILLE
Zias Improve to 16-13 Overall, 4-3 in LSC South
KINGSVILLE,
TX — Eastern New Mexico, which took Lone Star Conference South
Division leader West Texas A&M to five games before losing on Tuesday,
Oct. 23, continued
its solid play on Thursday, Oct. 25 in a 3-0 LSC South victory over
Texas A&M-Kingsville.
The Zias downed the Javelinas, 30-14, 30-21, 30-26, and improved to
16-13 on the season,
4-3 in the LSC South. TAMUK fell to 3-27 overall, 0-8 in the LSC South.
The Zias hit .291 as a team against TAMUK, including .387 in the first
game. ENMU earned
50 kills during the match, with 16 in the first game and 17 in each
of the remaining games.
Meanwhile, the Javelinas hit negative .088 in the opening game, with
just 7 kills and 10
attacking errors. TAMUK ended the match with a 0.56 hitting percentage
and just 31 kills. The
Javelinas made 25 attacking errors overall.
ENMUs top player, Christabell Mariner (Jr., MB, Pago Pago, Amer.
Samoa/Tafuna H.S.)
pounded out 17 kills with just 4 errors on 31 attacks. She hit .419
for the match, and also provided
4 total blocks. Jessica Rowley (Sr., OH, Dallas, OR/Clackamas C.C.)
connected for 11 kills,
hit .280 and earned 7 digs. Raina Pilon (Jr., MB, Eagan, MN/Pasco-Hernando
C.C.) led all
players with a .571 hitting percentage to go with 10 kills, 3 service
aces and a match-high 12 digs.
The Zias also received 5 kills and 7 digs from Courtney Wallenborn (Jr.,
RS, Camas, WA/
Mt. Hood C.C.), plus 4 kills and 3 digs from Shannyn De Arman (Jr.,
MB/OH, Chandler, AZ/
Glendale C.C.). Sophomore setter Margie Goble (San Antonio, TX/Holmes
H.S.) contributed
35 assists and 9 digs, while Nikki Tilton (Sr., DS/S, Milwaukie, OR/Alabama
A&M) provided
3 service aces.
Texas A&M-Kingsville was led by Candice Threadgill, who earned 12
kills and achieved a
.429 hitting percentage. Natalie Walther and Kelli OLeary recorded
5 kills apiece, with Walther
also supplying 24 assists. Kimberley Paisley led the Javelinas with
8 digs.
ENMU continues its 3-match road trip with another LSC South contest
on Saturday, Oct. 27
at Tarleton State University. Match time in Stephenville, Texas, is
1:00 p.m. (MDT). The Zias
complete the road trip at Wayland Baptist University on Tuesday, Oct.
30, at 6:00 p.m. (MST)
in Plainview, Texas.
