CENTRAL OKLAHOMA SWEEPS ZIAS
AT LSC CROSSOVER TOURNAMENT
WICHITA FALLS, TX — The University of Central Oklahoma achieved a .328 team hitting percentage on its way to a 30-14, 30-27, 30-13 victory over Eastern New Mexico University, at the Lone Star Conference Crossover Tournament, Oct. 6 in Wichita Falls, Texas. UCO improved to 16-6, while the Zias fell to 11-10. ENMU finished the LSC Crossover Tournament with a 1-2 record.

In Eastern’s first two matches on Oct. 5, the Zias defeated Southeastern Oklahoma, 3-1, but lost to Cameron, 3-2. The LSC Crossover Tournament was a regular season event matching teams from the LSC North against ENMU and other teams from the LSC South.

UCO easily won the first game, 30-14, but the Zias put up a strong battle in the second game before losing, 30-27. The Zias recorded 16 kills in the Game #2, but UCO earned 20 kills to hold off Eastern’s challenge. The Bronchos completed the 3-game sweep with a 30-13 win in the third game.

Central Oklahoma received 14 kills apiece from Lexy Fortner and Alma Brahimaj in the Bronchos’ victory over the Zias. Brahimaj also recorded 12 digs and earned a .414 hitting percentage. Tori Walker hit .579 for the Bronchos, and finished the match with 11 kills. UCO’s setter, Stacey Meek registered 38 assists and 11 digs.

Christabell Mariner (Jr., MB, Pago Pago, Amer. Samoa/Tafuna H.S.) topped Eastern’s offense with 11 kills. Courtney Wallenborn (Jr., RS, Camas, WA/Mt. Hood C.C.), Raina Pilon (Jr., MB, Eagan, MN/Pasco-Hernando C.C.) and Jessica Rowley (Sr., OH, Dallas, OR/Clackamas C.C.) each added 7 kills for the Zias. Setter Margie Goble (So., San Antonio, TX/Holmes H.S.) earned 20 assists, while Pilon recorded 11 digs and Wallenborn and Rowley each provided 10 digs.

ENMU returns to action on Tuesday, Oct. 9, with an LSC South match at West Texas A&M University in Canyon, Texas. Match time is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. (MST). West Texas is currently 17-2 overall, and leads the LSC South with a 4-0 record. The Lady Buffs are ranked #3 in NCAA Division II.
