CALE SANDERS NAMED LSC SOUTH SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER-OF-THE-WEEK
HossPORTALES, NMCale Sanders, a 6’1”, 185-pound junior wide receiver at Eastern New Mexico University, has been named Lone Star Conference South Division Special Teams Player-of-the-Week for his efforts in ENMU’s 37-6 win over New Mexico Highlands University on Saturday, Sept. 8.

Sanders scored on a 49-yard punt return to give ENMU a 14-0 lead in the first quarter. Sanders (Roswell, NM/Goddard H.S.) provided the Greyhounds with 156 all-purpose yards against the Cowboys.

He returned 4 punts for 64 yards, including his 49-yard TD with 5:44 left in the opening quarter. He also caught 4 passes for 62 yards, and carried the ball once on a 30-yard wide receiver reverse.

With its victory over New Mexico Highlands, ENMU improved to 2-0 on the season and clinched the New Mexico small college championship for the 4th time in 5 years. The Hounds have defeated both of their in-state NCAA Division II rivals. Eastern routed Western New Mexico, 70-7, in the season-opener Sept. 1 in Silver City.

The Greyhounds begin a three-game road trip on Saturday, Sept. 15, at Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, Texas. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. (MST). Last season, MSU defeated the Greyhounds, 33-16, at Greyhound Stadium.
