MARGIE GOBLE NAMED LSC SOUTH SETTER/DEFENSIVE PLAYER-OF-THE-WEEK
HossPORTALES, NMMargie Goble (So., San Antonio, TX/Holmes H.S.), a setter on the Eastern New Mexico University volleyball team, has been selected Lone Star Conference South Division Setter/Defensive Player-of-the-Week for her efforts in four matches played between Sept. 3 and Sept. 8, 2001.

Goble helped Eastern New Mexico extend its current winning steak to 6 consecutive matches, as ENMU went 4-0 during the week. Goble provided 174 assists in 14 games, an average of 12.4 assists per game.

She also achieved 3.9digs per game, 1.3 kills per game and 0.5 blocks per game. She recorded a .192 hitting percentage. For the season, Goble has earned 415 assists, an average of 9.9 assists per game. She has registered 57 kills (1.4 avg.), 124 digs (3.0 avg.) and 19 blocks (0.5 avg.)

Last year, Goble set an ENMU record with 1,536 assists. She broke the previous record of 1,498 assist set by Lindsey Davison in 1999. The Zias, 6-7 on the season, have not lost since falling to Southern Colorado in the Fort Lewis College Skyhawk Invitational, Aug. 31.

Since then, Eastern has defeated Adams State College once and Fort Lewis, New Mexico Highlands University, Midwestern State University and Western New Mexico University one time each. Last week, the Zias downed Adams State, 3-1 (30-24, 32-34, 30-19, 30-20), defeated New Mexico Highlands, 3-1 (25-30, 32-30, 30-22, 30-21), swept Midwestern State, 3-0 (30-19, 30-28, 30-22), and rallied past Western New Mexico in all three games (31-29, 30-25, 30-20).

The MSU and WNMU matches were the first home matches for ENMU this season. The Zias do not play again until Saturday, Sept. 15, when they host the ENMU Alumni at Greyhound Arena. Match time is set for 2:00 p.m. (MST).

Eastern is scheduled to host Lubbock Christian University on Tuesday, Sept. 18 at 7:00 p.m. (MST), before opening LSC South action against Tarleton State University on Friday, Sept. 21 at Greyhound Arena at 7:00 p.m. (MST). The Zias host Texas A&M-Kingsville on Saturday, Sept. 22 at 2:00 p.m. (MST) to complete the homestand.
