CHRISTABELL MARINER NAMED LSC SOUTH HITTER-OF-THE-WEEK
HossPORTALES, NM — Eastern New Mexico University middle blocker Christabell Mariner (Jr., Pago Pago, American Samoa/Tafuna High School) has been named Lone Star Conference South Division Hitter-of-the-Week for her efforts in four matches played between Sept. 3 and Sept. 8, 2001.

Mariner helped the Zias go 4-0 during the week, as ENMU extended its winning streak to 6 consecutive matches. Mariner earned a .405 hitting percentage in the four matches, while averaging 5.5 kills and 4.4 digs per game.

She also provided 1.6 blocks per game and recorded 6 serving aces. She achieved a triple-double against Adams State College on Sept. 3, registering 25 kills, 19 digs and 10 total blocks (2 BS, 8 BA). For the year, she is hitting .306, with 4.6 kills and 4.0 digs per game. Mariner, injured for most of Eastern’s first 7 matches of the season as the

Zias started the year 0-7, has been a key factor in the current winning streak. The Zias, now 6-7, have not lost since falling to Southern Colorado in the Fort Lewis College Skyhawk Invitational, Aug. 31. Since then, the Zias have defeated Adams State once and Fort Lewis, New Mexico Highlands University, Midwestern State University and Western New Mexico University one time each.

Last week, the Zias downed Adams State, 3-1 (30-24, 32-34, 30-19, 30-20), defeated New Mexico Highlands, 3-1 (25-30, 32-30, 30-22, 30-21), swept Midwestern State, 3-0 (30-19, 30-28, 30-22), and rallied past Western New Mexico in all three games (31-29, 30-25, 30-20). The Zias do not play again until Saturday, Sept. 15, when they host the ENMU Alumni at Greyhound Arena. Match time is set for 2:00 p.m. (MST).

Eastern is scheduled to host Lubbock Christian University on Tuesday, Sept. 18 at 7:00 p.m. (MST), before opening LSC South action against Tarleton State University on Friday, Sept. 21 at Greyhound Arena at 7:00 p.m. (MST). The Zias host Texas A&M-Kingsville on Saturday, Sept. 22 at 2:00 p.m. (MST) to complete the homestand.
