ZIA VOLLEYBALL COMPETES WITH DIVISION I
SCHOOLS FOR ATTENDANCE RECORD
AT BIG LEAGUE SPORTS MIKEY LIKES IT
PORTALES, NM — On Fri. September 21 at 7:00 p.m., Zia Volleyball will take on the Tarleton State TexAnns in an annual event specifically designed to bring ENMU to the forefront of NCAA attendance records for the year. Named in honor of Coach Mike Maguire, "Big League Sports Mikey Likes it" is a celebration of Zia Volleyball and ENMU Athletics.

"Mikey Likes It" began in 1998, with a successful break into the NCAA top 10 attendance record for the year's regular season games. "To have a crowd of more than 1700 or 1800 for a volleyball game is unheard of in the Lone Star Conference, and most of Division II," Events Manager Jennifer Poyer said. "When we break into the top ten for NCAA attendance, we're rivaling Division I institutions as well … the fact that we consistently break into the top ten with this promotion says a lot about the positive community support for ENMU Athletics."

Big League Sports will be giving away apparel and other items to help promote attendance for the event. The athletics department will be giving away door prizes and throwing candy to the crowd throughout the match. Fans are also encouraged to bring signs supporting the Zias as they take on the TexAnns, and free pizza awarded to fans with the best signs.

As an added bonus, there will be a Karaoke contest between the second and third games where one lucky contestant will walk away with $25 cash, courtesy of ENMU Athletics. Three contestants will have a chance to sing for a minute and a half to impress the crowd and prove they should win the cash. At the end of the contest, crowd approval will determine the winner.

Normally, regular general admission costs $4.00 per ticket for ENMU Volleyball games. For Big League Sports Mikey Likes It, fans can purchase a group pass that will admit four people for only $5.00. The group passes will be available at the Athletics Office or at the ticket booth for pre-game sales beginning one hour before the game.

This year's event also includes the unveiling of the famous Valley Furniture Green Monster. The Green Monster is a green loveseat where fans can win a chance to sit during home sporting events. Anyone wearing ENMU colors or letters can sign up to be chosen to sit on the Green Monster and eat free pizza during the match. Every home game beginning with Big League Sports Mikey Likes It will find a fan chosen to sit on the Green Monster that night. At the end of Basketball season, one fan who sat on the Green Monster will be chosen to take the loveseat home.
