CALE SANDERS NAMED LSC SOUTH SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER-OF-THE-WEEK FOR SECOND TIME THIS SEASON
HossPORTALES, NMCale Sanders, a 6’1”, 185-pound junior wide receiver at Eastern New Mexico University, has been named Lone Star Conference South Division Special Teams Player-of-the-Week for the second time this season.

The most recent award was for his efforts in ENMU’s 57-35 victory at the University of Central Oklahoma on Saturday, Sept. 22. He also was chosen LSC South Special Teams Player-of-the-Week for his performance in Eastern’s 37-6 win over New Mexico Highlands University on Sept. 8.

Sanders (Roswell, NM/Goddard H.S.) opened the scoring against UCO with an 80-yard punt return for a touchdown. It was his second touchdown on a punt return this year. He previously reached the end zone on a 49-yard return against NMHU.

In the win at Central Oklahoma, Sanders also scored on a 2-point conversion that gave the Greyhounds a 28-15 halftime lead. Eastern fell behind 35-28, before scoring the final 29 points of the game.Sanders set up ENMU’s go-ahead score in the fourth quarter with a 48-yard pass reception to the UCO 15-yard line.

Overall, he caught 5 passes for 138 yards during the game. He also returned 2 punts for a total of 87 yards. For the season, Sanders leads the Lone Star Conference with 10 punt returns for 163 yards, an average of 16.3 yards per return. He has caught 22 passes for 518 yards and 3 TDs this season.

The Greyhounds, who entered the UCO game ranked #20 in NCAA Division II, are 4-0 on the season and 2-0 in the overall LSC standings. They will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 29 at Abilene Christian University. Kickoff in Abilene, Texas, is set for 5:00 p.m. (MST).
