MAEGAN RHOTEN NAMED LSC SOUTH PITCHER-OF-THE-WEEK FOR SECOND TIME THIS SEASON
PORTALES, NM – Eastern New Mexico University sophomore pitcher Maegan Rhoten (RHP/OF, 5’9”, Albuquerque, NM/St. Pius X H.S.) has been named Lone Star Conference South Division Pitcher-of-the-Week for the week for the second time this season. The most recent award was achieved as a result of her efforts in games played March 25-31.

ENMU went 5-1 during the week with a double-header sweep of the University of Texas-Permian Basin and three wins in four Lone Star Conference games against Angelo State University. The Zias improved to 22-15 overall, including 4-4 in the LSC South.

Rhoten started three games, providing the Zias with a 3-0 record. She also threw 2/3 of an inning in relief, and produced a 1.56 earned run average during the week. Rhtoen struck out 23 batters in 18 innings pitched, while giving up only 4 earned runs. She also went 9 of 18 at the plate (.500) with 4 doubles, 4 runs and 8 RBIs.

Eastern defeated UT-Permian Basin 16-0 and 22-0 on Wednesday, March 27, winning both games on the run rule in five innings. The Zias swept a double-header from ASU on Friday, March 29, as Rhoten led the way to a 6-4 win and ENMU won the second game 8-0 on the run rule in five innings. Rhoten was the winning pitcher in an 8-5 victory over the Rambelles in the first game on Saturday, March 30, before ASU closed out the series with a 3-2 win.

Rhoten is now 9-4 on the season with a 2.33 ERA. She has registered 87 strikeouts in 87 innings pitched, while limiting opponents to a .237 batting average. ENMU returns to action on Friday, April 5, in an LSC South double-header against Texas Woman’s University. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m. (MST).

The Zias and the Pioneers will also play a double-header on Saturday, April 6, starting at 1:00 p.m. (MST). TWU, currently 4-2 and in first place in the LSC South, is one game ahead of ENMU in the division standings.
