RACHEL MOHLER NAMED LSC SOUTH HITTER-OF-THE-WEEK
PORTALES, NM Eastern New Mexico University senior third baseman Rachel Mohler (5’8”, Las Vegas, NV/Green Valley H.S.) has been named Lone Star Conference South Division Hitter-of-the-Week for the week ending Sunday, March 31. Mohler recorded 11 hits in 22 at bats, as the Zias earned a 5-1 record during the week.

Mohler, an NFCA Second Team All-America selection in 2001, not only hit .500 in six games during the week, but scored 9 runs and achieved 5 RBIs. She smacked 3 doubles, giving her 10 doubles on the season and 55 doubles in her ENMU career.

In Eastern’s double-header sweep of the University of Texas-Permian Basin on Wednesday, March 27, Mohler earned 7 hits in 8 at bats. She also scored 6 runs and recorded 5 RBIs. ENMU defeated the Falcons, 16-0 and 22-0, winning both games on the run rule in 5 innings.

The Zias swept a Lone Star Conference double-header from ASU on Friday, March 29, taking a 6-4 win in the opener, followed by an 8-0 victory on the run rule in five inning in the second game. On Saturday, March 30, Eastern split a double-header with the Rambelles, winning the first game 8-5, before falling to ASU 3-2 in the final game of the weekend series.

Mohler recorded a hit in three of the four games against Angelo State, including two hits in the series opener. She scored a run in all three of Eastern’s victories over the Rambelles, and is now hitting .395 for the season with 27 runs and 24 RBIs. ENMU is 22-15 on the season and 4-4 in the LSC South.

The Zias are scheduled to host Texas Woman’s University in a 4-game LSC South series this weekend, with the first double-header set for Friday, April 5, at 1:00 p.m. (MST). The second double-header is slated for Saturday, April 6, also at 1:00 p.m. (MST). TWU currently holds first place in the LSC South at 4-2, one game ahead of the Zias.
