Eastern’s top singles player Layla Turner (Sr., Casa Grande, AZ/Casa Grande Union H.S.), ranked 37th nationally in NCAA Division II, had little trouble with Heather McMahan in the #1 singles match. Turner won, 6-0, 6-0, and upped her record to 17-4. She has a career singles record of 88-18 (.831). Lisa Weinman (Jr., Albuquerque, NM/West Mesa H.S.) and Sarah Pennington (Sr., Sweetwater, TX/Sweetwater H.S.) of ENMU cruised to an 8-0 win over McMahan and Jennifer Massey in the #1 doubles match. Weinman and Pennington are 10-5 this year and 41-22 (.651) as a doubles team the past three seasons. Overall, ENMU lost just six games in the entire match. The Zias won four singles flights without losing a single game. Eastern also swept through two of the three doubles flights, and lost just one game in doubles play. Eastern remains at home for three matches this coming weekend. ENMU, ranked #31 in NCAA Division II, will take on 15th-ranked Grand Canyon University on Friday, April 5, at 2:00 p.m. (MST).The Zias are also scheduled to play LSC rivals Midwestern State University and Tarleton State University on Saturday, April 6, with the MSU match set for 9:00 a.m. (MST) and the TSU match slated for 2:00 p.m. (MST).
