HOBBS, NM – Sean McMullan threw a complete-game 4-hitter in the first game and College of the Southwest limited Eastern New Mexico University to just three runs in the second game, as the Mustangs swept a double-header from the visiting Greyhounds, 9-1 and 6-3, on Tuesday, April 9. CSW upped its overall record to 28-11, including 16-3 at home. The Hounds fell to 17-25 on the season.

Dallas McMann (Jr., C/DH, Amarillo, TX/Randall H.S.) scored Eastern’s only run in the first game. He led off the fourth inning with a double down the left field line, then advanced to third on a single by Franco Barrero (Jr., 1B/DH, Laredo, TX/Laredo J.C.) and scored on a one-out single by Xarin Escobedo (Sr., SS, Mexico City, MEX/El Paso C.C.).

Eastern’s only other hit during the game was a single by Chris Hill (Jr., 2B, Boise, ID/Scottsdale C.C.) in the seventh inning. CSW took an early 1-0 lead in the opener when Jorge Camarillo doubled to open the game and later scored on a single by Ramon Flores.

The Mustangs extended their lead to 6-0 in the third inning, with Tom Van Wart providing the key hit with a 2-RBI single. After Eastern tallied its lone run in the fourth inning, the Mustangs concluded the scoring with three runs - one earned - in the fifth stanza. Scott Williams drove in the second run with a sacrifice fly and Micah Pennies brought home the third run with a single.

The first run scored on a throwing error by relief pitcher Ryan Hess (So., RHP, Surrey, BC/Langley Fine Arts School). Flores led the Mustangs in the first game with 3 hits in 4 at bats. Nick Mathews was 1 for 1 with two walks, while Francisco Cota finished 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored. Camarillo was 2 for 3. In the second game, ENMU broke a scoreless tie with two runs in the third inning. Both runs were scored with two outs, as Mark Wallace (Fr., CF, Alamogordo, NM/Alamogordo H.S.) doubled and McMann followed with a homer.

It was McMann’s team-leading fourth homer of the season. ENMU increased its lead to 3-0 with a run in the top of the fourth inning. Hill, Chris Fudge (Jr., C, Carlsbad, NM/N.M. Military Institute) and Josh Kuchta (P/DH, Clovis, NM/Clovis H.S.) hit consecutive singles with two outs. Kuchta’s single drove home Hill.

College of the Southwest tied the game on a 3-run homer by Mathews in the bottom of the fourth inning. Casey Greebon, who singled with one out, and Cota, who added another single with two outs, scored on the play. Eastern had a chance to take the lead in the top of the fifth, after Barrero received a two-out walk. Barrero raced around the bases on a single by Escobedo, but was thrown out at home.

A single by Flores and an RBI double by Aaron Forrister moved the Mustangs in front with one out in the bottom of the inning. Forrister advanced to third on a wild pitch, then scored on a single by Greebon. After Greebon stole second and T.J. Anson struck out, Cota hit an RBI single to give the Mustangs a 6-3 lead.
