ENMU CANCELS WEEKEND TENNIS MATCHES DUE TO WINDY AND COLD WEATHER FORECAST
PORTALES, NM – The Eastern New Mexico University women’s tennis team was set to open its home schedule for the 2002 spring season this weekend, but forecasts for excessive wind and cold have led to the cancellation of all matches at ENMU on Mar. 1 and Mar. 2.

Eastern and three other teams were originally slated to each play three matches. ENMU and its opponents will attempt to make up all or some of the matches later this season, but firm dates for any rescheduled matches have not been determined. The Zias were previously scheduled to play West Texas A&M University at 9:00 a.m. (MST) on Friday, Mar. 1, followed by a match against the University of Central Oklahoma at 2:00 p.m. (MST) on Friday.

Eastern was slated to take on Cameron University at 9:00 a.m. (MST) on Saturday, Mar. 2. WTAMU, UCO and Cameron were also scheduled to play each other during the two-day event. As a result of this weekend’s cancellations, Eastern’s next match is Mar. 7 at 11:00 a.m. (MST) against St. Mary’s University at a neutral site in New Braunfels, Texas. The Zias will remain in New Braunfels for matches against St. Edwards University at 2:30 p.m. (MST) on Mar. 8 and against Abilene Christian University at 1:00 p.m. (MST) on Mar. 9.

Eastern’s next home matches are set for Mar. 16, when the Zias will take on Western New Mexico University at 9:00 a.m. (MST) before facing Fort Hays State University at 4:00 p.m. (MST).
