TREVOR DAVIS NAMED LSC SOUTH PITCHER-OF-THE-WEEK
PORTALES, NM – Freshman pitcher Trevor Davis (RHP, Evergreen, CO/Evergreen H.S.) of Eastern New Mexico University has been named Lone Star Conference South Division Pitcher-of-the-Week for the week ending Sunday, Mar. 10, 2002.

Davis threw two complete-game victories without giving up an earned run, and struck out 13 batters in 14 innings pitched. Davis, 6’4”, 210 pounds, threw all 7 innings in Eastern’s 8-1 win over New Mexico Highlands on Wed., Mar. 6, allowing only an unearned run.

After just three days rest, he threw another 7-inning complete game against Colorado School of Mines, as ENMU claimed an 8-0 shutout of the Orediggers. He achieved a perfect 0.00 earned run average during his two appearances. For the week, Davis allowed just 8 hits and gave up only 4 walks. He tossed a 3-hitter with 4 strikeouts against NMHU and threw a 5-hitter with 9 strikeouts against Colorado Mines. He allowed just one extra-base hit during the week, a double by the Cowboys in Eastern’s victory over NMHU.

Davis is 2-1 on the season and ranks 8th in the overall LSC with a 2.83 earned run average. He has thrown in 8 games (4 starts), and has recorded 19 strikeouts in 28 2/3 innings. He has limited opponents to a .236 batting average. ENMU was 2-4 during the week, but won the two games Davis started.

The Hounds split with New Mexico Highlands (13-8 L, 8-1 W) and dropped 3 of 4 games against CSM (5-4 L in 9 innings, 8-1 L, 8-0 W, 7-4 L) on Mar. 9-10. Colorado Mines improved to 14-2 on the season. The Greyhounds, currently 8-16 overall and 5-4 in the LSC South, will host arch rival West Texas A&M University this weekend in an important LSC South series.

ENMU and WTAMU (5-3 LSC South) will play one 9-inning game at 2:00 p.m. (MST) on Friday, Mar. 15, followed by two 7-inning games on Saturday, Mar. 16, at 12:00 noon (MST). The team that wins the series will own second place in the LSC South midway through the conference schedule.
