DAVALOS
NAMED HEAD BASKETBALL COACH AT SUL ROSS STATE UNIVERSITY Davalos assisted ENMU Head Coach Shawn Scanlan in rebuilding the Greyhounds following a 3-23 season in 1999-00. In 2000-01, Scanlan and Davalos’ first season, the Hounds finished 4-22. This past year, ENMU improved to 15-12 and qualified for the Lone Star Conference Tournament for the first time in five seasons. Davalos, 32, coached four years at Fort Stockton High School in Texas before joining the ENMU staff. At Fort Stockton, he achieved an overall record of 71-49 (59.2%), while leading his teams to winning records all four seasons (1996-97 through 1999-00). He graduated from MacArthur High School in San Antonio, Texas, as an Academic All-District selection in 1988. He also excelled academically at the University of Houston for three years after attending Incarnate Word College as a freshman. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Kinesiology from Houston in 1994. He received a Master of Arts in Education from Auburn University at Montgomery in 1996. While at the University of Houston, Davalos was a student assistant in 1992-93. He was a graduate assistant coach at Auburn-Montgomery for the 1994-95 and 1995-96 seasons. Davalos is the son of Rudy Davalos, Director of Athletics at the University of New Mexico. Doug will begin his new position at SRSU on April 1. |
