JILL STOUT SELECTED HONORABLE MENTION ALL-LSC SOUTH
PORTALES, NM – Sophomore guard Jill Stout (5’7”, Sudan, TX/Sudan H.S.) on the Eastern New Mexico University women’s basketball team has been named Honorable Mention All-Lone Star Conference South Division as selected by the LSC South head coaches. Stout was seven Honorable Mention selections and 17 players overall chosen for the All-LSC South Team for the 2001-02 season.

Stout led the Zias with 11.0 points per game, 3.5 assists per game and 1.6 three-point baskets per game. She scored 274 points in Eastern’s 25 games, while providing 88 assists and sinking a total of 39 three-pointers. She ranked second on the team with 38 steals (1.5 avg.), and also provided 82 rebounds (3.3 avg.).

Stout, who started 24 of 25 games in 2001-02, has played in all but three games (47 of 50) during two seasons at Eastern. Stout was the team’s most consistent scorer and finished the season as the only Zia averaging in double figures. She scored a career-high 22 points against Tarleton State University on Feb. 16, and tallied 21 points against New Mexico Highlands University on Nov. 26 and Texas A&M University-Commerce on Jan. 31.Overall, she achieved double-digit scoring in 14 games this season.

Players named First Team All-LSC South were sophomore center Melanie Carter from Abilene Christian, senior guard Misty Wilson from Tarleton State, sophomore center Arie Wilson from TAMU-Kingsville, senior forward Summer Sparnon from TAMU-Commerce and sophomore guard Kelli Anne Goble from Angelo State.

Carter was named LSC South Player-of-the-Year, while Wilson was named Defensive Player-of-the-Year. Celeste Stevenson of West Texas A&M was chosen Freshman-of-the-Year. Claude Cummings, head coach at Tarleton State, was named Coach-of-the-Year.

ENMU finished the year with a 5-20 overall record, including 3-11 (8th place) in the LSC South. The Zias opened the season 2-14, then won 3 of the next 4 games, before concluding the schedule with 5 consecutive losses. Head Coach Wayne Moore, who guided the Zias for a total of 22 seasons, recently announced his retirement. Moore was 315-261 (.547) at Eastern, with 16 seasons at .500 or better.
