WILLIE HAMILTON SIGNS LETTER-OF-INTENT TO PLAY FOR GREYHOUND BASKETBALL TEAM
PORTALES, NM – Willie Hamilton, a 6’5” 180-pound forward from Onate High School in Las Cruces, New Mexico, has signed a National Letter-of-Intent to play men’s basketball with the Eastern New Mexico University Greyhounds. Hamilton is the third high school player, and the fifth player overall, signed by ENMU Head Coach Shawn Scanlan this spring.

Hamilton averaged 17.5 points, 8.2 rebounds and 3.5 blocked shots per game this past season for OHS Head Coach Richard Robinson. He helped Onate reach the Class 4A State championship game, as OHS finished second in the state with an overall record of 23-3. He received First Team All-State honors and was named First Team All- District in 2001-02. He competed in the East/West Albuquerque All-Star Game this spring, and will play in the New Mexico North/South All-Star Game in Albuquerque this summer. Hamilton qualified for the Class 4A State Track and Field Meet, and finished third in the high jump. He cleared 6’4” during the State Meet, held at the University of New Mexico track and field facility.

“Willie is an athletic forward who has explosive ability at the basket and can step out and hit the 12-foot to 15-foot shot,” Scanlan said. “Shot blocking is a unique quality that separates him from other players statistically. He is another positive addition to this recruiting class for next season. We are looking forward to working him into a productive player for us.”
