DICKSON AND McMANN ARE SELECTED TO LSC SOUTH ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM
Fudge, Hess Named to Commissioner's Honor Roll

PORTALES, NM – Two Eastern New Mexico University baseball players have been named to the 2002 Lone Star Conference South Division All-Academic Baseball Team, as selected by the LSC South sports information directors. ENMU players named to the All-Academic Team were senior first baseman and designated hitter Ryan Dickson (Trail, BC/Big Bend C.C.) and junior catcher and designated hitter Dallas McMann (Amarillo, TX/Randall H.S.).

Student-athletes with at least a 3.2 grade point average and 24 or more semester hours at an LSC member institution were eligible for the LSC South All-Academic Team. A total of nine players from the five South Division teams were selected.

ENMU also placed two additional players on the LSC South Commissioner’s Honor Roll. They were junior catcher and outfielder Chris Fudge (Carlsbad, NM/N.M. Military Institute) and sophomore right-handed pitcher Ryan Hess (Surrey, BC/Langley Fine Arts School). Players voted to All-Academic Team, plus all other nominees, were named to the Commissioner’s Honor Roll.

Dickson, who is majoring in English and has 3.37 cumulative grade point average, hit .268 this season. He scored 19 runs and recorded 20 RBIs. He hit eight doubles, one triple and three home runs. He also provided solid defense, with a .977 fielding percentage. Dickson registered 82 putouts and 4 assists on the season.

In two seasons at ENMU, Dickson achieved a .272 career batting average. He also provided 32 runs and 41 RBIs, while blasting and 12 doubles, on triple and seven home runs. He earned 223 putouts and 10 assists, and finished his career with a .983 fielding percentage. He played in 86 games, including 73 starts, at ENMU.

McMann is majoring in Accounting and owns a 3.22 cumulative GPA. He was named to the LSC South All-Academic Team in 2000. On the field, he was chosen First Team All-LSC South in 2001 and 2002. McMann set an ENMU single season record with a .433 batting average this season. He broke the previous record of .430, set by Shane Shallenberger in 1995.

McMann also led the Greyhounds with 74 hits, 171 at bats, 43 runs, 40 RBIs, four home runs and a .596 slugging percentage. He tied for the team lead in doubles with 10 and was tied for second with three triples. He was the only Greyhound to start all 47 games. He excelled behind the plate, earning 208 putouts and 28 assists to go with a .979 fielding percentage.

Opponents were successful on just 13 of 44 stolen base attempts when he was behind the plate. McMann leads the LSC in hits and is ranked third in batting average. He earned at least one hit in 38 of 47 games, including a 17-game hitting streak.

During one stretch of the season, he recorded a hit in 27 of 28 games. He has achieved a .380 career batting average and a .568 career slugging percentage.In three seasons at ENMU, he has scored 111 runs, while providing 112 RBIs. He has connected for 35 doubles, 9 triples and 13 home runs.

Fudge owns a 3.39 cumulative GPA and is majoring in Accounting. He saw action in 26 games this spring, including 14 starts behind the plate or in left field. He scored seven runs, drove in four runs and hit one double. He recorded 54 putouts and 4 assists with just 2 errors, for a .967 fielding percentage.

Fudge missed the 2001 season due to injury. Hess is majoring in Business Administration. He has achieved a 3.62 cumulative GPA. This season, he pitched in 10 games for a total of 15 2/3 innings. He registered the lowest earned run average on the team at 2.87. He also earned a 1-0 record and struck out 9 batters. He limited opponents to a .279 batting average. Hess was 1-1 as a freshman, with 12 strikeouts in 25 2/3 innings pitched.

The Greyhounds finished the 2002 season with a 19-28 overall record. ENMU was 9-13 in the LSC South. Head Coach Phil Clabaugh upped his career victory total to 359 wins in 15 seasons, including 263 wins in 11 seasons at ENMU.
