Margie Goble Named LSC South Setter/Defensive Player-of-the-Week for the Second Time this Season

PORTALES, NM – Eastern New Mexico University setter Margie Goble, a junior from San Antonio, Texas (Holmes High School) has been selected Lone Star Conference South Division Setter/Defensive Player-of-the-Week for her efforts in Eastern’s three matches during the week of Oct. 7-13. It is the second time she has received the award this season. The Zias lost to Lubbock Christian University in four games on Oct. 8, but defeated LSC South foes Texas A&M University-Kingsville on Oct. 11 and Tarleton State University on Oct. 12 in three games each.

Goble supplied the Zias with 125 assists in 10 games, while also earning 10 kills, two service aces, 23 digs and 11 blocks. She started all three matches and achieved a .308 hitting percentage during the week. LCU defeated Eastern, 30-27, 15-30, 30-21, 30-21. The Zias defeated TAMU-Kingsville, 30-21, 30-22, 30-24, and swept Tarleton State, 30-15, 30-20, 30-19.

Eastern’s wins over TAMUK and TSU moved the Zias into second place in the LSC South at 4-2. The Zias improved to 18-6 overall.

Goble leads ENMU with 983 assists this season. She has played in all 24 matches and 94 games. She is Eastern’s all-time assist leader, with 3,893 career assists.

She also has achieved 94 kills with a .244 hitting percentage this season. Her other season totals include 24 service aces, 261 digs and an 47 total blocks. She has averaged 2.8 digs and 0.5 blocks per game.

The Zias play at West Texas A&M University on Tuesday, Oct. 15, at 6 p.m. (MST). Eastern will play at home on Friday, Oct. 18, against the ENMU Alumni. The Alumni and the ENMU “B” Team will take to the court at 5:30 p.m. (MST), followed by the Alumni and the ENMU varsity at about 7 p.m. (MST). ENMU will host Lubbock Christian on Tuesday, Oct. 22, at 7 p.m. (MST).
