Margie Goble Named LSC South Setter/Defensive Player-of-the-Week

PORTALES, NM – Eastern New Mexico University setter Margie Goble (Jr., San Antonio, TX/Holmes HS) has been named Lone Star Conference South Division Hitter-of-the-Week for her efforts in five matches played between Sept. 3 and Sept. 8, 2002. Goble helped ENMU earn a 4-1 record during the week, as the Zias improved to 7-2 overall.

Goble achieved 217 assists in 19 games, an average of 11.4 assists per game. She supplied 56 assists in a 3-2 loss to Western New Mexico University, 50 assists in a 3-1 win over New Mexico Highlands University, and 49 assists in a 3-1 win over Adams State College.

For the week, Goble produced 55 digs, 17 kills and 9 blocks. Her best match defensively was against WNMU, when she recorded 19 digs and 3 total blocks. She earned a .205 hitting percentage during the week.

Goble has dished out 354 assists so far this season, an average of 10.4 assists per game. She ranks second on the team with 107 digs (3.2 avg.) and is third with 12 service aces (0.4 avg.).

ENMU opened the week on Sept. 3 with a 30-25, 30-26, 30-15 sweep of Wayland Baptist University. The Zias began the Torneo de Amigas with a 30-21, 30-17, 32-34, 30-17 victory over Adams State. WNMU defeated the Zias, 30-23, 23-30, 30-27, 19-30, 15-13, to complete the first day of the tournament. On the second day, Eastern swept Fort Lewis College, 30-21, 30-19, 30-22, then edged New Mexico Highlands University, 24-30, 30-22, 30-21, 30-27.

Goble and senior outside hitter Christabell Mariner (Pago Pago, American Samoa/Tafuna HS) were named to the Torneo de Amigas All-Tournament Team. In addition, Mariner was chosen LSC South Hitter-of-the-Week.
