Torneo de Amigas All-Tournament Team Announced by Eastern New Mexico University
Selections Include Mariner and Goble of ENMU

PORTALES, NM – Eastern New Mexico University placed two volleyball players on the 2002 Torneo de Amigas All-Tournament Team, released today. The ENMU players earning All-Tournament honors were senior outside hitter Christabell Mariner (Pago Pago, American Samoa/Tafuna High School) and junior setter Margie Goble (San Antonio, TX/Holmes HS). The tournament was hosted by ENMU at Greyhound Arena, Friday, Sept. 6 and Saturday, Sept. 7.

A total of six players were named to the All-Tournament Team. ENMU and Western New Mexico University tied for the Torneo de Amigas title with 3-1 records.

Other players earning All-Tournament honors were sophomore outside hitter Kimberly Tano of Western New Mexico, senior setter Peggy Hongthong of New Mexico Highlands University, junior outside hitter Moreen Baylis of Fort Lewis College and junior outside hitter Elena Goldina of Adams State College. Following ENMU and WNMU in the Torneo de Amigas standings were Fort Lewis (2-2), Adams State (1-3) and N.M. Highlands (1-3).
Mariner averaged 4.4 kills, 3.2 digs, 1.2 blocks and 0.6 service aces per game to lead the Zias. Her tournament totals included 70 kills and 51 digs in Eastern’s 16 games. She contributed a .299 hitting percentage for the Zias. She also earned 20 or more kills in three of ENMU’s four matches over the weekend.

Goble provided Eastern with 194 assists during the tournament, while averaging 12.1 assists per game. She also achieved 16 kills (1.0 avg.), 47 digs (2.9 avg.) and 8 blocks (0.5 avg.). She earned a .250 hitting percentage.

Mariner and Goble also received recognition as the LSC South Hitter-of-the-Week and the LSC South Setter/Defensive Player-of-the-Week, respectively. The Zias will open LSC South action this week, when they play road matches at Tarleton State University on Thursday, Sept. 12, at 6 p.m. MST, and at Texas A&M University-Kingsville on Saturday, Sept. 14, at 11 a.m. MST.
