Jimmy Hamilton Named LSC South Defensive Player-of-the-Week

PORTALES, NM – Eastern New Mexico University senior linebacker Jimmy Hamilton (Artesia, NM/New Mexico State University) has been named Lone Star Conference South Division Defensive Player-of-the-Week for his efforts in Eastern’s 70-28 win at New Mexico Highlands University on Saturday, Sept. 14. The Greyhounds improved to 2-0 with the victory.

Hamilton led ENMU with eight total tackles (5 unassisted, 3 assists), including one sack for a loss of five yards. The Greyhounds earned a total of six sacks during the game.
ENMU forced NMHU into three turnovers, as the Cowboys lost two fumbles and threw one interception. The Hounds also blocked a punt.

Hamilton ranks first on the team in total tackles so far this season. He has registered 11 solo tackles and 5 assists for 16 total tackles. He also has provided the Greyhounds with two sacks and has broken up one pass. Last year, he ranked fourth on the team with 53 total tackles.

ENMU has a 30-14 combined record since the start of the 1998 season. Head Coach Harold “Bud” Elliott recorded his 50th win at Eastern in Saturday’s triumph over NMHU. He is 50-36-2 (.580) in nine seasons with the Greyhounds.

Eastern returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 21, when the Hounds will host Northeastern State University (Okla.). Kickoff at Greyhound Stadium is scheduled for 3 p.m. (MST).
