Maegan Rhoten is Selected LSC South Hitter-of-the-Week
Blasts a Home Run in all Four Games against ACU

PORTALES, NM - Eastern New Mexico University junior pitcher and left fielder Maegan Rhoten (5’9”, Albuquerque, NM/St. Pius X HS) has been named Lone Star Conference South Division Hitter-of-the-Week for her efforts in Eastern’s four-game series with Abilene Christian University, Apr. 4-5, at Zia Softball Field. ENMU and ACU split the series, leaving the Zias with a 23-22 overall record, including 3-9 in the LSC South.

Rhoten earned a .667 batting average during the week, with 6 hits in 9 at bats. Four of her hits were home runs - one in each game. She recorded at least one run, one hit and one RBI in all four contests. She also received one walk and was hit by one pitch. Overall, she provided the Zias with six runs and six RBIs against the Wildcats.

The Zias won the first game of the series, 7-6, when Kim Barajas (So., 3B/DP, Alamogordo, NM/Alamogordo HS) hit a two-run homer with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning. Eastern won the second game, 11-3, on the run rule in 4 1/2 innings. Both games were played on Friday, Apr. 4. Rhoten struck out eight batters and was the winning pitcher in the first game.

Abilene Christian won the last two games of the series on Saturday, Apr. 5. The Wildcats achieved a 12-10 win to open the double-header, then won the second game, 13-11. In each game, the Zias made an impressive comeback, but ACU regained the lead in the final inning.

Rhoten owns a .333 batting average for the season (40 of 120). She ranks second on the team with 21 runs and is third with 27 RBIs. She leads the Zias with 13 doubles and is second on the squad with seven home runs. She has hit 19 home runs during her ENMU career, to go with 109 RBIs and 76 runs.

The Zias will play again on Friday, Apr. 11, and Saturday, Apr. 12, in a four-game LSC South series at Tarleton State University. Game time is scheduled for 12 noon (MST) on Friday and for 11 a.m. (MST) on Saturday.
