Garland Coleman Named LSC South Player-of-the-Week
Senior Guard Sinks 23 of 29 Shots (79.4%)

PORTALES, NM - Eastern New Mexico University senior guard Garland Coleman (6'3", 198 lbs., Chicago, IL/Homewood-Flossmoor HS) has been named Lone Star Conference South Division Men's Basketball Player-of-the-Week, after leading ENMU to a 2-1 record in games played Dec. 1 and Dec. 7. The week was highlighted by a 62-61 win over defending NCAA Division II national champion Northeastern State University, with Coleman providing the go-ahead point by hitting the first of two free throws with eight seconds left.

Coleman shot a dazzling 79.4% during the week, as he connected on 23 of 29 field goals. He was 5 for 8 in a 77-73 loss to NAIA power Lubbock Christian University (Dec.1), then sank 9 of 10 shots in a 67-66 victory at the University of Central Oklahoma (Dec. 4). He was 9 of 11 from the field in Eastern's win over Northeastern State (Dec. 6).

He scored 24 points against Central Oklahoma for the third game of his career above 20 points. He tallied 12 points at LCU and led Eastern with 19 points at NSU. Coleman averaged 18.3 points and 4.3 rebounds per game. He also earned five assists, three steals and two blocks.

Eastern's victories over UCO and NSU came against LSC North Division opponents. LSC crossover games do not count in the divisional standings.

For the season, Coleman ranks first on the ENMU scoring chart with 15.0 points per game. He also leads the team with 73.3% success on field goals (44 of 60). He is second on the team with 31 rebounds (4.4 average), and is third with 13 assists and 11 steals. He has scored 765 career points to go with 429 career rebounds.

ENMU is currently 4-3, with losses to New Mexico State University from NCAA Division I, Northwest Missouri State University, ranked in the Top 20 in NCAA Division II, and Lubbock Christian, which has two wins over NCAA Division I teams. The Greyhounds ended the 2002-03 season with a 20-8 record, and barely missed qualifying for NCAA Division II National Tournament.

ENMU won the LSC South title at 11-1 and reached the semifinals of the LSC Tournament.

The Hounds will play again on Saturday, Dec. 13, at the University of the Incarnate Word. Game time in San Antonio, Texas, is set for 6:30 p.m. (MST). The UIW game is Eastern's seventh consecutive road game in a streak of eight road games in a row. ENMU defeated Incarnate Word, 76-62, in the season-opener for the Greyhounds, but the Crusaders are now 6-1, after winning five games in a row.
