Cedric Palmer Named LSC South Player-of-the-Week

PORTALES, NM – Eastern New Mexico University senior forward Cedric Palmer (6’6”, 200 lbs., Houston, TX/McLennan CC) has been named Lone Star Conference South Division Men’s Basketball Player-of-the-Week after leading ENMU to a 3-0 record in games played Feb. 17 through Feb. 22. Eastern defeated West Texas A&M, 85-76, on Feb. 17, downed Angelo State, 93-88 in overtime, on Feb. 20, and defeated Abilene Christian, 87-74, on Feb. 22.

All three games were played at Greyhound Arena, as ENMU improved to 17-7 overall and to 9-1 in the LSC South. The Greyhounds, who have won 13 of their last 14 games, clinched at least a tie for the LSC South title. ENMU also clinched a home game in the quarterfinals of the LSC Tournament, Mar. 4, against either the third place team or the fourth place team from the LSC North.

Palmer averaged 18.3 points and 6.3 rebounds per game. He shot 64.0% from the floor (16 of 25) and converted 85.2% (23 of 27) at the free throw line. He scored 17 points in Eastern’s win over West Texas A&M, then added 19 points each against Angelo State and Abilene Christian. In addition to his scoring, shooting and rebounding success, he contributed four assists, blocked two shots and earned four steals during the week.

For the year, Palmer is averaging a team-high 15.8 points per game, to go with 4.8 rebounds per game. He is shooting 56.2% on field goals (109 of 194) and 76.8% at the line (129 of 168).

In LSC South play, he has averaged 18.9 points per game, while hitting 62.4% of his shots from the floor. He scored a career-high 29 points against Midwestern State on Feb. 6.

ENMU leads the LSC South by two games with two games remaining. The Hounds need one win, or one West Texas A&M loss, to clinch the LSC South championship outright. If Eastern and WTAMU tie for the regular season title, the top seed for the LSC Tournament will be chosen on a coin toss by Commissioner Fred Jacoby. ENMU and West Texas A&M would be tied in all of the tie-breakers prior to the coin toss.
