ENMU Football Team Announces Two Additional National Letter-of-Intent Signings

PORTALES, NM –- The Eastern New Mexico University football team has signed two additional high school student-athletes to National Letters-of-Intent, Head Coach Harold “Bud” Elliott announced today. The two signees give ENMU a total of 21 high school players signed this spring. Included on the following list are the most recent players to sign National Letters-of-Intent with Eastern New Mexico University.

ENMU finished 2002 with an 8-3 record and a 4-2 mark in the Lone Star Conference South Division (3rd place tie). It was the Greyhounds’ fifth consecutive winning season and third 8-3 season since 1998. Elliott has guided ENMU to seven winning seasons in nine years. He owns a 56-39-2 (.588) record at Eastern, and is 193-169-9 (.532) in 35 years as a head coach. Elliott was named LSC South Coach-of-the-Year in 2002. It was his fourth Coach-of-the-Year award in the past five seasons.

Recent ENMU Football Signings

Fort Worth, Texas
Michael Benton - Quarterback, Everman High School
5'11", 185 lbs., 4.5/40 yds.
Benton was named Second Team All-State in Texas Class AAA as a junior, and was a First Team All-District selection as a senior. He led Everman to back-to-back State Championships the past two seasons. He was 29-1 as a starter.

Plainview, Texas (Lockney HS)
Landon Schumacher - Offensive Lineman, Lockney High School
6'8", 315 lbs., 5.1/40 yds.
Schumacher was named First Team All-District on both offense and defense this past season. He was named to the Amarillo Globe Super Team and was an All-South Plains selection. He was chosen Honorable Mention All-State in Class AA.
