ENMU Signs Les Long of Portales High School to National Letter-of-Intent in Football

PORTALES, NM – Eastern New Mexico University head football coach Harold “Bud” Elliott has announced the signing of Les Long from the Portales High School to a National Letter-of-Intent, giving ENMU a total of 19 players signed this spring. Long was the top running back at PHS, and also provided solid play on defense. The Rams reached the 2002 New Mexico Class 3A State Championship game, before falling to Ruidoso High School in the closing minutes. Long will play fullback for the Greyhounds.

It was the Greyhounds’ fifth consecutive winning season and third 8-3 season since 1998. Elliott has guided ENMU to seven winning seasons in nine years. He owns a 56-39-2 (.588) record at Eastern, and is 193-169-9 (.532) in 35 years as a head coach. Elliott was named LSC South Coach-of-the-Year in 2002. It was his fourth Coach-of-the-Year award
