Megan Dozier Scores Twice, as Zias Defeat Texas Woman's 2-1 in Overtime

ENMU Defeats TWU in Zias' First Ever LSC Game

DENTON, TX - Megan Dozier (Fr., F, Midland, TX/Midland HS) scored twice for Eastern New Mexico University, leading the Zias to a 2-1 overtime victory against Texas Woman's University, Oct. 3, in Denton, Texas. Dozier's winning goal came 96:55 into the match, sending ENMU's first-year team to a victory in its first ever Lone Star Conference game.

Dozier was accurate with her shots during the match. She scored her two goals on just three shots. Her other shot hit the post. Dozier became Eastern's leading scorer on the season with three goals and one assist for seven points.

"For us to get a win is a great result," said ENMU Head Coach Travis McCorkle. "This was our sixth road game in a row."

Eastern New Mexico University improved to 2-4 overall, 1-0 in the LSC. Texas Woman's fell to 1-6-1 overall, 0-1 in the LSC.

The game was scoreless until Dozier connected for her first goal at the 22:18 mark. Kayla McKamey (Fr., MF, Artesia, NM/U. of New Mexico) headed the ball to Dozier on a break-away attack. Dozier scored from 28 yards out, as ENMU took a 1-0 lead.

ENMU maintained its one-goal lead at halftime, but Texas Woman's tied the score on a follow shot by Stephanie Stein at 74:13. Stein also took the initial shot, which was saved by ENMU goalkeeper Carolyn Vincent (Fr., Denton, TX/Billy C. Ryan HS).

TWU outshot Eastern, 29-5, in regulation, but couldn't break the 1-1 tied. In overtime, the Pioneers had two shots. One shot late in regulation got past Vincent, but an ENMU defender cleared the ball off the goal line. The Pioneers also had a quality shot in overtime, but Vincent registered a save on the play.

Eastern's winning goal was set up by Stacia Givens (Fr., MF, Artesia, NM/Artesia HS), who sent the ball to Dozier outside the penalty area. Dozier evaded TWU goalkeeper Sara Weaver and put the ball into an empty net. The goal came 6:55 into the first of two sudden-death overtime periods.

The Pioneers finished the game with a 31-6 edge in shots and a 13-0 advantage in corner kicks. Vincent earned 12 saves for ENMU. Weaver had one save for Texas Woman's.

ENMU will take on LSC favorite Texas A&M University-Commerce on Sunday, Oct. 5 at 11 a.m. (MDT). The Lions are ranked #9 in the NCAA Division II Poll, sponsored by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). The match with TAMU-Commerce will complete Eastern's string of seven consecutive road games to start the season. ENMU will host College of the Southwest on Friday, Oct. 10, at 4 p.m. (MDT).
