Daniel Sherman Signs National Letter-of-Intent with ENMU Men’s Basketball

PORTALES, NM — Daniel Sherman, a 6’7” 235-pound forward from Mount San Antonio College in Walnut, California, has signed a National Letter-of-Intent to play men’s basketball at Eastern New Mexico University. Sherman signed the Letter-of-Intent this spring during the national signing period. Sherman, who has played two seasons as a junior college athlete, will be a junior at ENMU during the 2004-05 season.

At Mount San Antonio this past season, Sherman, from Chino Hills, California, averaged 9.1 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. He ranked 15th in the South Coast Conference in blocked shots with 20 in 28 games (0.7 avg.). Sherman previously played on season at Fullerton College (juco) in California.

“Daniel has a big, wide body at 6’7”, 235 pounds, and can control space in the middle,” said ENMU Head Coach Shawn Scanlan. “He runs well for a big man. As a lefty, he poses problems for opposing defenses. He can score around the basket and out to 15 feet, and he will give us some flexibility on the interior with Jamaal (Hunnicutt, Sr., Forward) and Travazz (Buckley, Sr., Forward). He will be the biggest player on our team since I’ve been here.”

Eastern New Mexico University won the Lone Star Conference South Division title for the second year in a row in 2003-04 and qualified for Eastern’s first NCAA Division II Tournament berth since 1992-93. The Greyhounds recorded their second straight 20-win season, as ENMU ended the year at 20-9 overall, including 10-2 in the LSC South.
