Eastern tops Kingsville in three
Zias will face UCO in first round of LSC Tournament

KINGSVILLE, TEXAS — The Eastern New Mexico University volleyball team improved its record to 23-7 by virtue of a 3-1 victory (30-26, 30-25, 23-30, 30-24) over Texas A&M University-Kingsville on Saturday, Nov. 6. The Zias finish the regular season tied for second in the Lone Star Conference South with a 7-3 record in the division.

Five different Zias posted double-digit kills in the match, with Kelley McGinty (Sr., OH, Longview, WA/Whatcom CC) leading the way with 16. Lindsay Schiely (Jr., MB, Portland, OR/Clackamas CC) and Emilie Rodman (Sr., MB, Gillette, WY/Western Wyoming CC) posted 15 and 14 kills, respectively, with Rodman putting up a team-leading .591 attack percentage in the contest. Anna Bellum (Sr., OH, Albuquerque, NM/Garden City CC) was next with 13 kills, while Grace George (So., MB, Kaaawa, HI/Kahuku HS) added 11. ENMU hit .302 for the match.

Margie Goble (Sr., S, San Antonio, TX/Holmes HS) led the Zias with 33 assists, while Amber McCarthy (Jr., S, Huntington Beach, CA/Orange Coast CC) added 27. Olivia Boan (Jr., DS, Portales, NM/Portales HS) posted 14 digs to lead ENMU, with Jessica Weeks (Sr., LIB, Brownell, KS/Garden City CC) adding 13 and McGinty tallying 11.

As a team, the Zias had eight blocks in the match, led by George and Rodman with five apiece. Schiely added three total blocks, and Goble posted one block assist.

For the Lady Javelinas, Kellie O’Leary led the way with 22 kills, and Heidi Scheopner and Tenesha Marsh had 10 apiece. Scheopner led TAMUK with a .421 attack percentage, as the Lady Javs hit .221 as a unit.

The Zias will head to Lawton, Okla. for the LSC Tournament this week, beginning on Thursday, Nov. 11 with a matchup against the University of Central Oklahoma, the North Division’s second seed. Angelo State University holds the tiebreaker over the Zias, and thus will hold the second seed in the South. ASU will face the North’s No. 3 seed, Texas Woman’s University, in the first round, while divisional champs Cameron University and Abilene Christian University will have first-round byes. Times for the tournament games are yet to be announced.
