ENMU Splits Weekend Games
Robinson scores twice in victory over UTPB

HOBBS, N.M. — The Eastern New Mexico soccer team split a pair of weekend games, moving its record to 5-7-1 on the season. The Greyhounds defeated the University of Texas at Permian Basin 2-1 in overtime on Friday, Oct. 8, but fell to College of the Southwest 5-0 on Saturday, Oct. 9.

In Saturday’s loss, CSW (6-4-0) led 2-0 at halftime, then added two goals early in the second half. Leif Craddock (Fr., GK, Amarillo, TX/West Texas A&M University) was in goal for ENMU in the first half, while Neal Hill (Fr., GK, New Braunfels, TX/Canyon HS) started the second half. Grant Shanahan completed the game in net for Eastern.

In Friday’s overtime victory over UTPB (5-4-1), Albert Robinson (Fr., F, Lawton, OK/MacArthur HS) scored both goals for the Greyhounds. The game winning goal came about six minutes into overtime. The Greyhounds scored the goal on a counterattack, with the ball going to Josh Roybal (Fr., MID, Roswell, NM/Roswell HS) near the middle of the field to start the attack on a pass from the defense. Roybal sent the ball wide right to Robinson, who took the ball directly toward goal, then cut to his left and shot with his left foot from 14 yards out.

Robinson’s first tally of the game was scored early in the second half to put ENMU ahead, 1-0. UTPB put in a goal about 20 minutes into the second half to tie the score. Craddock was in goal for ENMU in the first half, while Shanahan was in goal in the second half.

The Hounds are on the road again this weekend, as they take on conference foes for both games. On Friday, Eastern faces off with Midwestern State University for a 8:30 p.m. (MDT) tilt. Midwestern defeated the Greyhounds 2-1 earlier this season. On Sunday, ENMU goes head-to-head with St. Edward’s University at 2 p.m. Eastern defeated SEU 2-0 in the first home game in the program’s history, on Sept. 17. Eastern carries a 2-5-0 record in the Southwest Soccer Conference into this weekend.
