Zias Fall in Five for Second Straight Match
Bellum notches 17 kills in loss

ABILENE, TEXAS — For the second time in three days, the Eastern New Mexico University volleyball team (12-5 overall, 0-2 Lone Star Conference South) fell in five games to one of the conference's toughest opponents, losing to Abilene Christian University 27-30, 30-25, 18-30, 30-27, 6-15.

Anna Bellum (Sr., OH, Albuquerque, NM/Garden City CC) led Eastern with 17 kills on the afternoon. Lindsay Schiely (Sr., MB, Portland, OR/Clackamas CC) and Grace George (So., MB, Kaaawa, HI/Kahuku HS) chipped in eight and seven kills, respectively. ENMU managed just 46 kills on the match to Abilene's 81.

Margie Goble (Sr., S, San Antonio, TX/Holmes HS) made 35 assists in the match. She now has 4,916 for her career, just 84 shy of 5,000 heading into this weekend's action. Bellum made 17 digs on defense for the Zias, while Jessica Weeks (Sr., LIB, Brownwell, KS/Garden City CC) made 14 for Eastern.

ENMU had a solid day on the block, tallying 11 as a team. Schiely made seven total blocks, and Emilie Rodman (Sr., MB, Gillette, WY/Western Wyoming CC) added six.

ACU (16-5, 2-0 LSC South) had five different players register 12 or more kills in the match, led by Michelle Bernhardt's 25. Abilene hit .221 for the match, including a .625 effort in the fifth and deciding game. Lindsey Martin tallied 70 assists in the contest for the home squad.

Eastern will be in action next this weekend when it heads to Canyon, Texas for the West Texas A&M Lady Buff Classic. The Zias will take on Wayland Baptist University on Thursday, Oct. 7 at 6 p.m. (MDT). On Friday, Oct. 8, ENMU will go head-to-head with St. Mary’s University and Texas A&M University-Commerce.
