ENMU Sweeps Wayland Baptist, 30-27, 30-28, 30-16
McGinty Provides 14 Kills, 10 Digs as Zias Improve to 21-7

PLAINVIEW, TEXAS — Senior outside hitter Kelley McGinty (Longview, WA/Whatcom CC) registered 14 kills and 10 digs to lead the Eastern New Mexico University Zias to a 30-27, 30-28, 30-16 sweep of Wayland Baptist University, Oct. 28 at the Hutcherson Center.

Middle blocker Lindsay Schiely (Jr., Portland, OR/Clackamas CC) added 12 kills and a .375 hitting percentage for the Zias, who improved to 21-7 overall. WBU fell to 5-24 on the season.

Wayland Baptist achieved a .248 hitting percentage compared to .241 for ENMU, but the Zias had more kills than the Pioneers in each game (17-16, 19-17 and 19-9). Eastern powered its way to 55 kills in the match, while WBU finished with 42 kills.

The Pioneers struggled in the third game, with 9 kills, 5 errors and 32 attacks for a .125 hitting percentage. Eastern hit .250 in the third game, with 19 kills, 7 errors and 48 attacks. McGinty led a balanced offense for the Zias, as five players finished with eight or more kills.

McGinty and Schiely were the only ENMU players in double figures, but Anna Bellum (Sr., OH, Albuquerque, NM/Garden City CC) recorded 9 kills to go with 8 kills each by Grace George (So., MB, Kaaawa, HI/Kahuka HS) and Emilie Rodman (Sr., MB, Gillette, WY/Western Wyoming CC).

Senior libero Jessica Weeks (Brownell, KS/Garden City CC) provided 14 digs for the Zias, and defensive specialist Olivia Boan (Jr., Portales, NM/Portales HS) registered 13 digs. Margie Goble (Sr., S, San Antonio, TX/Holmes HS) provided 27 assists and two kills, while Amber McCarthy (Jr., S, Huntington Beach, CA/Orange Coast CC) supplied 15 assists, five digs and two kills. George led all players for both teams with 5 total blocks.

Wayland Baptist placed three players in double figures for kills, with MaryGrace Moore leading the way with 11, and Randi Trew and Krissa Johnson earning 10 each. Johnson hit .381, while Trew hit .275 and Moore achieved a .241 hitting percentage.

Lavoris Buckner and T’Leah Eicke were credited with 15 digs apiece. Trew tacked on 13 digs and Abby Loerwald contributed 10 digs. Loerwald also achieved 4 kills on 5 attacks (.800) and tied Kourtney Dunnam for the team high with 19 assists. The Pioneers recorded 3 block solos and 12 block assists, including 4 block assists by Ashlee Simpson.

The Zias do not play again until a Lone Star Conference South Division match on Friday, Nov. 4 against Tarleton State University at 6 p.m. MDT. Eastern will end the regular season with an LSC South match at Texas A&M University-Kingsville on Saturday, Nov. 6 at 11 a.m. MDT.
