Eastern trumped on road, 4-0
Zias clinch .500 record in second season

EDMOND, OKLA. — The Eastern New Mexico University women’s soccer team finished its season with a 4-0 loss to the University of Central Oklahoma on Sunday, Oct. 31. The Zias completed their second season with a .500 record at 9-9-2, and with a 2-5-2 mark in the Lone Star Conference.

Melissa Terry scored two goals for UCO (13-5-2 overall, 7-1-1 LSC), while Lindsey Hull registered a goal and an assist. Lacy Cooley got the game-winner for the Bronchos at 18:25, as they clinched the LSC regular season title for the third time in five years.

Stephanie Sanchez (Fr., GK, Belen, NM/Belen HS) made six saves for the Zias, as they were outshot 18-2 in the game. Katharine Coulombe (Fr., M, Sammamish, WA/Eastlake HS) registered the lone shot on goal for ENMU. Central was whistled for 14 fouls in the contest, while Eastern committed 12.

With the combination of the loss and a 1-1 tie between East Central University and Midwestern State University, the Zias were eliminated from the LSC playoffs. The top six teams in the conference make the postseason tournament.

Megan Dozier (So., F, Midland, TX/Midland HS) led ENMU in scoring for ths second straight year, with 10 goals and eight assists for 28 points on the season. Sanchez and Amanda Vanlandingham (Fr., GK, Hobbs, NM/Hobbs HS) saw the majority of time in the net for Eastern, with the latter posting a 5-4-1 record and a 0.99 goals against average.
